LA Lancer

Hey everyone, I am currently painting the old girl and thought I might track down some NOS or good condition bits to replace my broke ones :( So if anyone has tail light surrounds or reverse light lenses (the ones under the rear bumper) in good or new condition, please let me know! https://sites.goo...

Re: 4g32 Vs 2.6 Astron in LC lancer

I have begun my journey with this https://sites.google.com/site/yeahhandsomefarmershere/20120409_154606.jpg Custom engine mounts and speedo cable, Gearbox crossmember requires very little to accommodate the t50 and it looks (fingers crossed) like it will bolt up at correct length Tailshaft - t50 gea...

Re: My GC Hardtop project

I had on 12" and the astron still overheated, (LJ Torana Radiator) though it was mounted to the front of the radiator (no space between engine and rad) blowing air. I hear that sucking air through is better... I have no experience with two smaller fans, though I suspect that may be superior. Ch...

Re: My La Lancer! 1974

I have an intake manifold, injectors with throttle body for the astron 1 head you have. It fits in my lancer so will fit in yours. Only Astron 2 came with EFI and so to use your current head you would need an adapter plate. You would need a loom and ecu though as I sold these. Oh and fuel pumps and ...

Re: coilovers

What shocks are you running in your coilovers?

I put Sigma ones in mine and they fail to capture.

Re: TB vs Plenum Size

Ah I get you, I had wondered why the shape on the VN TB I have wasn't circular like the after-market jobs I have seen. A few questions then, would a circular profile (like after-market) be better than the lobed factory ones or worse, in your case? When you were describing the opening characteristics...

Re: TB vs Plenum Size

I kind of figured it would be a less delicate balance if the system has a turbo, because the positive pressure would cancel a lot of the flow/pressure issues.

Good to know though.

BTW is Stealth on holidays?

TB vs Plenum Size

Hey there everyone. I have been reading up a little on what makes the ideal setup in terms of plenum size vs throttle body size for engines. I have sent off a TS magna manifold to Stealth for him to modify it to fit into my LA lancer, but I am unsure of what size TB to go for... From what I have rea...

Re: quick headcount

Rob from Canberra. White 76 LA 4 door lancer with EFI 4g54(recently broken). Unfortunately the motor I put into the car is not running after a trip to the engine tuner, so I am thinking of converting a TS magna motor I recently inherited to do the job. Sigma brakes (converted LA diff to take Sigma d...

Re: Lancer Radiator/Oil Cooler

The Lancer Radiator has been good enough so far, the thermo fans come on at about 3/4 of the temp gauge, it then resolves to half and that is where it sits.

So I dont know what is going on with others but it is ok for me for now.

Re: Lancer Radiator/Oil Cooler

Dan Turbo Lancer has raised a good point. The motor I am dropping in is an N/A Astron 1, 2.6L out of a GH sigma If I do put an oil cooler in the car and run it from a sandwich adapter will the stocko oil pump flow enough for it all to be fine? My gut feeling is it would be. BTW 1. The oil cooler I b...

Re: Lancer Radiator

Might get a shiny new one ;)

The thermo fans are thermostatically (if that is a word) controlled, & I have the standard LA Lancer temp gauge, might plumb that into the thermostat housing...

Good times :)

Lancer Radiator/Oil Cooler

So I am thinking I will keep the standard size lancer radiator, even though now I have a 2.6 4g54 astron 1 motor in the engine bay. The lancer radiator fits the hole in the front end perfectly, I don't see how the other radiator (2L sigma) will have any benefit when it is the same thickness and widt...

Re: LA Lancer Blown 4g33

My manual states that the measured adjustments are for a cold engine. I figured that when the engine heats up there would be even less gap as everything would expand a little. I even thought (and I am naive to this stuff, happy to be set straight) that the exhaust side gap was bigger because there i...

Re: LA Lancer Blown 4g33

...... pressure check probably, check valve clearances before you dismantle, you might have done it wrong, it will go better with the 2 and a 40 but do you have the cash to rejet/choke the 40? could be in the $hundreds.....you could hold out and fit factory solex's side or down draft.... they turn ...

Re: LA Lancer Blown 4g33

It already has the no.2 Cam in it as dad got that in at the re-build 100,000kms ago. I just saw a side draft webber on ebay and they sell the manifolds for 4g33 at tweakit.net. "All gaskets, seals, needle, seat, fuel banjo, fuel washers etc are new. The top cover has been replaced with an earli...

Re: LA Lancer Blown 4g33

OK latest developments - no compression in cylinder 2. Which means I probably have a bent valve stem. Off comes the head again and in go some new valves. I already have the valve stem seals from the full gasket kit so that’s a win. I will do that this week some time. I heard If the timing chain had ...

Re: LA Lancer Blown 4g33

Yes I have been busy with it this weekend. Blown head gasket (I must have been blind not to see it) Flow check - 70 Head shaved - 110 Head gasket set - 85 (apparently they don’t make the simple head gasket kits anymore so it was a full valve regrind set) Put it all back together, adjust tappets, new...

Re: LA Lancer Blown 4g33

Yeah not entirely sure at this stage but most likely cracked head, as the head gasket shows no signs of leak, could be a water jacket I guess but there is no signs of that in the cylinders either. Water mixing with the oil, milk everywhere! Anyway I have wanted to get it all apart and do it up for a...

LA Lancer Blown 4g33

I have just recently blown the 4g33 motor in my 1976LA model. Dad bought this car new in 1976 and it has been in the family since and now after the second re-build it has gone again. I am not sure what to do, 1. Find someone in Canberra that can re-build it well (any suggestions) 2. Find a replaceme...
