personally wanna hear peoples thoughts again on the issue on prices being low or high, personally i hope they do get some value about them, as RWD jap cars are hard to come by, well the 70's models plus anyways.

personally coz i love the cars so much if i had the money i would gladly pay a k or 2 for a really nice shell.
for a fully built up rally pack car with everythin i would pay what it cost to build, i hat ehow you see these cars that have had 20k spent on them just to be sold for 3k you no?

Number one rule - you cannot make a profit from building a modified car.

We all love to mess about with our rides, customising, modifying, enhancing etc. just for our own egos & enjoyment, but don't ever expect to get back the amount of money you have invested in your ride.
Only a small number of classic & historic vehicles will increase in value, & Mitsubishi's dont come close to this category.
A car is only worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it. Someone's bargain could also be a rip off, depending on you desires.
Human nature dictates that the seller wants as much as possible, & the buyer wants to spend as little as possible. Somewhere in between is the agreed price.
Moral of the story - Its your choice how much your willing to spend, but do your homework first.

Before I started to muck around with mine, I put it on the side of the road with an asking price of $500.00

Rust free and 120,000k's. Didnt get a single looker.

I did up my car purely for my enjoyment/ ego etc... tried to keep it as original as possible, with some added hard to get bits to try to keep some of its value, and even increase its value by rarity. Don't know if it will make any difference though.
I suppose the point is this. Value of cars is determined by demand. From the little poll I've been running on here since last week, It is clear that people in the majority don't buy these cars because they want them. So what chance do we have of selling them to others that do?
I suppose anyone doing up their car in the hope of increasing it's value is perhaps foolish. As much as I hate to say it. Does that make me foolish? Yes possibly.

i sold a A73 GSR la alancer in 1997 for $17000 dollars US,yeah it was a all
numbers matching group 1 car but hey still a lancer!
and im in the process of selling my current A73 coupe for an insane some of cash considering its condition but again its a rare car
i agree you'll never see good money for a sigma or galant unless some really
wants one but that shouldnt hold us back from building properly then one day thay might hold some value

you can go on about how youre pissed coz your car isnt worth anything by my question is this. how much did you buy it for? If YOU bought the car for a grand why should some body else pay heaps more, I probably wouldnt buy a modified car anyway unless I knew the guy who owned it. cos a lot of people who are selling cars talk shit "Oh yeah completley rebuilt the engine from the ground up" I have been burned by that one before. so personally I go for the stock car so I can do the stuff myself.
secondly go buy a new car for seventy grand drive it out the show room put it on the side of the road and sell it... fastest way to loose ten grand bar the casino, I bought my car for cheap and thats still what its worth.

sold my wagon recently for 3k

Bought my GN Wagon about a year ago for $350 (with 4 months rego). It did have a cracked head but I replaced it with a $200 reco'd M7 I had lying around.
It hasn't missed a beat although the carby could do with a reco.

yeah, destroy everyone whos not on sg.com's car and increase their rarity or buy all the existing old mitsu's and hoarde them. again increasing their rarity (some members are already attempting this option I think) just like with the turbos that occasionally start a bidding war coz dudes have four on their shed wall (no offence I wish that was me).
I have been thinking, they should start a sigma racing series like they have with the hq's that would be sweet fun and raise the sigma profile.
that maybe the third and most fun option.

Truly though, people don't want pieces of shit, and they only judge cars by what they look like. Street Cred also comes into it, but who can tell how fast a car is while it's cruising at 15kms?
Body work and paint, fit and finish. That's where the money should be spent. People who want good cars want quality.

What do you want man, you picked up your Coupe for $2,800 and want to turn around and sell it for $10,000?

The only things that can possibly make a car increase its value are pure chance!

The GT40 went and beat Ferrari at Leman, only a Very small amount were made.
They are worth a fortune.
had they lost, they arent worth scrap...


Ford XY GT won Bathurst, yes they are worth a fortune, but 15 years ago you could pick one up for 4 grand.

Now they arent worth as much modified, they have to be rebuilt to stock original condition or to original race condition with matching numbers etc etc.

And they are like a Car god... BUT only in Australia!!!
No one else in the world would give half a shit about them!



Honestly why do we like Mitsubishi.

its not because everyone on the street says WOW those 79 Sigmas have such nice lines.
its because Mitsubishi is a very cheap way to get into modifying cars.



Unfortunately Sigma/Galant never won any world motoring events of great significance, so they dont get the notariety.




But for us, we can get a site like this together to share and enjoy the little secrets about how to produce some more fun and power out of them, at a moderate cost...

i have spent a fair bit and a bit more on my scorp and a lot of time into restoring it from ground up, all new body and paint, engine drive train etc everything has been done except interior, that is next. i was more than happy to spend the money, i enjoy driving it, its my hobby. i get alot of looks driving on the roads when i get a chance to get it out of the shed, my next project is a full resto of my sigma turbo even though it is in great condition. i will never sell them and they will always be maintained. not sure what they would be worth if i was to sell them but they would not be going cheap that is for sure.

i started with a few hundred dollar shells and build one out of 2 which i have today. it was nice to get them cheap for a start. but scorps down here in tassie have been selling between 1000-2000 which isnt to bad but wrecks when they turn up have been about 100-200.

After rereading my post it sounds like im putting shit on GC75, that wasnt really my intention.

I was just saying my opinion about trying to control the car market and its not really doable.

As for what Stealth said about the LA GSR

Yes they did win some big rally events in the early days, so that gives them abit of notariety, in the Classic Rally world
But to be honest, Ive owned a couple of LA's and I had never even heard of the GSR until i came to this site...

So would i pay $10, 000 for an unmodified unrestored LA GSR? Nope

And my 2 door, many would laugh at the price I paid and say i was crazy.

But coming back to loosing money when modifying cars, the old owner had dropped $35,000
and i picked it up for $9,500 I think i got a pretty good deal.

But he had heaps of trouble trying to sell it, because people either wouldnt part with the cash,
Or he was getting constant phone calls to ask "what is it" haha

So would i EVER get my money back?

Nope, but i dont care, i will be handing this onto my kids one day.
(Probably my daughter to save my son the shame of driving a gay Purple car

I'm at the stage with my car that I don't really know how much more money I want to spend on it. I've put so much time, effort and money, yet there's sill so much to do if I wanted. I have no idea what it's worth?

The only way our cars would increase in value would be for something like initial D come along and star one in a popular series. The AE86 corolla's went from a 2 grand car to a 10 grand car in only a few years.

Honestly we can look at our cars and enjoy them for what they are. We can sit there in the knowledge that if something drive-line related breaks in our car it won't cost too much to find a replacement due to pretty much all RWD Mitsubishi's having some form or compatibility with the rest. If you own a galant and break a gearbox just shove a sigma one in. Break an engine find a replacement from the many available. If you consider the initial outlay in cost for our cars and the availability of parts it really isn't all that bad.

Maybe you might have a little trouble finding an elusive perfect part but at least it won't normally cost a fortune to pay for it. Consider the RX3 owners where they pay more for a badge then we would for a parts car and their parts cars are the same prices as our immaculate models. Honestly i can't see enough of a difference difference in the style between our cars to justify them being 5 to 10 times what ours are worth. But at least we can sit in the knowledge that we can afford our passion for old school cars and afford to have it look nice without running out of money. Put a galant worth 5 grand beside a RX3 worth 5 grand and i know which one i'd prefer.
