Re: Whats the smallest motor a old mitsu came out with?
1964 Colt 500 had a 500cc motor . Good luck finding one though. The Colt's as we saw them started in 67 with the Colt 1000 then the 1100's, 1200's and 1500's. Unfortunately all the Colt stuff is hard to find as colta51 said so it may rule you out seeing the Gally motors started at 1.3.
Re: Whats the smallest motor a old mitsu came out with?
The Lancer was available with a "1200" version of the Saturn motor (4G36?).... but I think it's actually 1239cc so probably still too big for what you need.
I hate to say it, but an A12-powered Datsun (1157cc ?) would be the go ... they can be made to go pretty hard without spending big $$. Preferably in a 1200 Coupe shell rather than a ( .... shudder .... ) 120Y !!

Re: Whats the smallest motor a old mitsu came out with?
1200's are just a little light in the front end. They understeer too easily. The 120Y has just that little bit more weight and slightly better balanced in my opinion. I've had the 1200 coupe and a 120Y 4 door. I'd pick the 120Y. Cheaper then the highly sort after 1200 too. They both have 1171cc motors but the 1200 version is better then the later 120Y. The 1200 motor revs heaps higher the the 120Y (read any 1200 motor after 1974). The 1200 gearbox is a better option then the 120Y also (actually has bearings not just bushes). 1200 ute diff would be a good addition too, just about unbreakable behind a 1200 motor.davetrees wrote:Preferably in a 1200 Coupe shell rather than a ( .... shudder .... ) 120Y !!
I know where a 120Y 4 door is for sale in Newcastle for best offer, would make a really good start...
Another thought is a datsun sunny. Coil rear suspension, possibly better to do mods for racing?

Down here at Mount Gambier, about 90% of Speedway Juniors race 1200cc Corollas. Have proved to be the best rig for the category. Alas, no Mitsy's to be seen anywhere.
I'm here for a good time, not a long time !

That's why there are so few left - they rallied them heaps back in the day! The old girl would be fairly uncompetitive these days as she's fairly slow too. There are a few around ( one in my front yard ) that are too far gone for an original restoral but would be fun to put some grunt behind75wagon wrote:that would be criminal to turn that into a speedway car
