if you ring up and get a "cover note" it pretty much covers you for 2 weeks (check that with the insurer tho)
then if the shit hits the fan, you will need to cover the cost of excess and the premium, just keep that in mind

hey, with my house insurance i ihave to pay yearly but with my cars, i had the option of 6 monthly or even paying a small amount monthly which comes directly comes out of my account. that is what i chose, you hardly notice it really. that is through shannons for my scorp and sigma turbo. my ute is through aami and they offer 6 months or 12 months.

I do a similar thing to Paddles, I have 3 cars, house, contents, property (small hobby farm), sheds, plant, stock, fencing etc all with the same insurance company. As you can imagine, a single annual premium is rather expensive, but on a monthly basis is affordable (or simply, you cannot afford NOT to have insurance). I had a rather large fire claim many years ago which saved me tens of thousands of $$.
I'm sure any insurance company will do any insurane cover on a annual basis, but you pay the premuim monthly. (Normally its the annual premium divided by 12) Should you only want 1 month or so, then simply don't pay the next months premium, but be careful, there may be a surcharge or penalty fee to exit the policy early.
Ring around, do your homework, but be carefull what you tell the insurance company, like don't say you only want 1 months cover. Good luck.
