Re: Awesome Turbo Setup (MUST READ)

Post by DragonCypher »

Just another word of wisdom for ya, if you still wanna go through with the rear mount turbo.. it'd probably be better to have it either infront of the diff, or in the boot with the exhaust re-routed up through the floor. (and ventillate the boot obviously..)

The reason I say this is (at least on the GJ scorp I know for sure) the exhaust pipe goes up and over the diff in weird and wonderful angles then theres not much room to play with afterward.. You'd want to avoid using a muffler before the turbo, but unless the tracks you go to allow for high db ratings, you'd want one AFTER the turbo.

Using bootspace would probably be best.. cant damage the turbos then from impacts, and can use the rear wheel arches/quarter panels to add ducting and intake etc.. European supercar style

Good luck again, and would really love to see progress pics :D lots and lots of progress pics

Cheers,
Chris

PS: So Stealth, where abouts could I source some info on buying boost ready blowthrough hif-44's? and why choose them over other carbs?

sumidel sell these carbs but are expensive
2 hif44 flow 55ocfm and are boost capable stock there easy to
set and tune have a high pressure feul bowl and look cool to
the hif-44 came on many vehicles factory and bikes and there
were factory turbo set up using them up 15psi(mg metro)
i also notice that lethal G has one one his draw thru set up
but dont think for a second that im going the cheap way out as this is
not cheap and is a very involed test engine that probably will never
see a chassis

the sts thing sounds wild! wow great to see some outside the box thoughts delivered top results! i commend you spec ops on thinking and researching outside the box for sure, and as i said in the other thread ideas are great things, but nothing in the hands of a fool.

I hope that given all the stuff ive read from you and the guys helping, criticising or trying to encourage you that you have the sense, the smarts, and the CASH to put something together. If you do, you just may turn some scene on their heads....

good luck.

Wat u mean its stock officer :)

Not much of a commonwhore fan to be honest but i know how much money and love my mates has thrown at this car and when he told me he was selling it there was no way i was going to pass it up especially at 20K. Hes spent over 100k on it and hes a really switched on kinda guy when it comes to cars everything (nuts, bolts, washer etc etc) has been replaced for brand new high quality top shelf replacements and i mean everything he even redid the ruppers on the blinkers :o . Also when all this stuff was bought it was at trade price hes been building the car for 6 years and up until a year ago was parts manager at a auto 1 shop.

Its already got rego and a mod plate so hopefully all good :) its only a half cage aswell so i think should be alright. Shes a full drag setup should run high 10s - low 11s and put out round 400 hp went to a dyno shootout on sunday and she put out 336 hp with 7400rpm chip in the msd ignition only about 90% throttle tho, previously it put out 352 hp with 8000 chip at 75% throttle. The carby hasnt been tuned properly its in the shop now needs to have butterflys welded up plus get rejetted after that were gonna put the 7800 chip in and leave it. So all thats left to do is sort out the throttle seems the off the shelf stuff doesnt work like its supposed to so have to make something up to get full throttle. Ive got a set of original walkinshaw wheels for street use but i think i might sell them and find something else the wheels in the photo are 4 inch wide on the front which are impossible to drive with on the street.

Heres better photo to see front tyres

Image

Anyways im off to bed ill let u guys know how it turns out if anyones interested i didnt bother posting anything up about her yet cos in the end shes still a commonwhore

Well 65K on this build but on the car including previous build hes spent well over 100k plus hes throwing in all the original parts and spares + another set of drag rims with 3 inch front runners and 8 inch rears with mt slicks + stuff from old build + hes throwing in a 95 v6 camry with a top of the range alpine system in it LOL.

Im going to replace all the alpine gear bar the head deck with whats in my gfs current car and give the camry to her ill put all the alpine gear in my vc and get a new dvd player to go with it for show n shines etc (or for while im waiting in queue at the drags lol).

Nice work amgis i like that its very beefy im prbly going to go the turbo route when i go forced induction simply because it launches hard already and i dont wanna have to mini-tub it plus then i can drive it on the street without wheel spinning every takeoff lol.

I dont see why its so hard to believe that the VC has had 100k put into it

Its pretty easy to do for a full ground up build

My mates single carb 355 has cost him 27k excluding all the engine dyno time and makes 588 fwhp

add all the r&d and it would be close to 60k just on an engine

it dont look like 27k
