Where to source twin carb air filters?

Post by astronturbo77 »

Ive recently aquired a factory twin carb air cleaner for my twin down draft solex carbs. I know a few other members here are running the factory twin setups, but where can i source a air filter element?

The fella behind the counter at repco was a little offended today, I took in the air cleaner, and asked to see a subaru L series air filter... he refused and said 'whats it for'.
I then proceded to tell him that I was trying to find a element for a twin carb galant, he kept insisting that he could get one, even though i assured him he wouldnt be able to, and guess what he couldnt lol.

I'm assuming you only want to use the original aircleaner housing for the sake of originality ? (because they have a really small opening & are seriously restrictive to air flow .... )

I have a vague recollection that early twin carb Mazda 323 / Ford Laser filter is pretty close ?

Another better option (which a mate did on his LA rally car years ago) would be to get one custom made by Unifilter .... mesh cage with foam cover. They will make filters to any size/shape you specify. He had an original paper one and just sent them the dimensions & a tracing of the shape.

were talking about the internal element? or the outer bit you can see? cause Im talking about the inner element you cant see, how's that going to effect originality :wut:

I am actually trying to find a filter to drop in the twin carb factory air box too.

I went to Repco the other day and they had a KB Laser twin carb filter on the shelf.
I took all measurements and they are actually longer, wider, and thinner height wise than the factory 4G32 one...
If you made rubber spacers to take up the height difference,
and cut the small filter locating lugs out of the base housing, i guess you could make it fit??

the twin carb laser one they showed me today was oval but nearly round if that makes sense.. the L series one was too long and too narrow.

I'm not sure if this would be of any help top you but the ryco website has in their catalogue section where you can try to search for a particular filter from a set of dimensional ranges.
http://www.rycofilters.com.au/catalogue/dimension
I used it to find a filter for my GB as for some reason the standard catalogue filter was too short. Ended up having to use a valiant filter instead which fitted perfect.

Maybe try a filter from a Nissan L-series four with the dual SU's (180B/200B SSS)? The aircleaner looks to be a similar shape, so the filter might be close as well?

My dad found 2 for sale on ebay UK. The brand is VIC air filter. On the box it has A-322 and also OEM No. MD603117.

When I googled this second no. I managed to find this: http://www.oscaro.com/filtre-a-air-knec ... 133195-8-p

and this
