I mainly want to keep her as original as I can, but I dont have the time at the moment to rebuild the motor and put it back in.
For now, I just want to swap over to something else. Was told to find a 4G32, was even told to put in a 4G93T or a 4G63T.
I got the car as is, havent done anything yet, but would just like it as a nice driving car.
It only has from memory 83000kms on the clock, and its untouched as from factory.
Im in Perth, and I have only ever seen one other lancer, but it was so full of rust that i think washing it would make it fall apart.
Any help on what I can do would be great as I mainly want to get it licenced again just for a nice old driving car.

sounds to me like you need an astron good driver reliable and boring
get your self a sigma or scorpion with 2.6 and jap 5speed (bellhousing is
part of g/box wont unbolt)and bolt it into your lancer
do a seach on the conversion its way easy

I agree with stealth, but just check in your state, in NSW I needed an Engineers ok for the 2.6
Which will mean Brake upgrades front, disk rear etc.

Maybe the 2.0L to get her back on the road, heaps of em around and cheap.
And youll be so stoked to get her on the road and be driving, you wont be chasing more power for a couple of months atleast ;0)
but check with someone about the 2.6 conversion....

4g32 does the job BUT every time you get out of car you wish it had more
4g54 does th same job BUT you can scare the crap out of yourself now and then
and if you take out balance shafts and build a reco will be more than enough to
satisfy most people
4g93 heap of work to convert and weak bottom end $$$$$$$
4g63bt twin cam turbo is the best conversion to do by a long shot but is costly
and needs to be done properly and you want to be a confident driver because
thay are lethal in a la lancer

^^^ What he said ^^^
Except for the first line :P
Doesnt matter what youve got, you always want more.
Choice 1: 4G32
Choice 2: 4G63T = $ but = FUN.
Choice 1k: Anchortron  If you want a heavy car, go and buy one :P

I know this is prob a silly question but how much more does an astron weigh than a 4g63 + intercooler
by the way I think a 4g63 T/C would be the way to go - its just not as cost effective

I'll second that, after dropping the 2.6 in my LC i couldn't notice the difference afterwards. As you can see theres two lines of thought here Maverick.

Has anyone ever weighed the 54 and the 63T?.Put them figures up then...theres probably a chance your VR4 1/2 cut engine will be a dud anyway...do you want to blow your dough?
You've got those that want to stay stock and those that want a cost effective power-up you just have to decide for yourself.I'm about to go 2.6 again myself

I mainly just want something that i can put in that will be reliable and cheap (4G32 is the way i'm leaning at the moment)

Its just for driving and having a little fun in

I have other cars for the power/performance side of things

Man every one will have a different opinion on what is better, Faster, more econmical, cheaper, more HP etc.
You just summed it up in one statement, its just for driving.

Put in the cheapest most economical engine, that fits, and will give you a thrill for what you want to do with it.

If that mean driving the stock 1400 with a locked diff, go for it, i have footage of me drifting a 2 lane highway that was just compacted sand rather than tar in the old 1400 4spd and a locked diff...

It was cool.

But then i updated to a sigma 2Litre Turbo, 5spd.
front heavy, Rear crazy,

Then went to a Starion 4G63t (Single OHC)
The computer and Injection were complete shit,
the power was disappointing, but it started smooth, and drove smooth,

so its what you want out of it....

As i said, if you already have hot cars, and you want it as a daily driver, just stick the cheapest and easiest engine that will go in to it.
If you want to make it something special then go for something special, and spend the money right the first time.

Hi Maverick!

Welcome to the forum! I'm also in Perth and drive a 75 LA 2-door. I've got a 4G32 in place of the original 1400, although I also added a weber 32/36 carbie which makes a huge difference in power over the stock 1600 and very driveable around town. I also have extractors in the shed that I had on my last 4G32. When I get time to install them they will make another huge difference, but a bit noisy (for some).

I reckon 4G32 is the way to go if you want an easy and cheap upgrade to the 1400. A bigger carbie and good exhaust is also too easy!

I plan to add a few pix of my LA to member's rides soon. BTW there are still one or two good LAs around Perth, but not many!

PS everybody - I think the new web site is great! Much faster than the old one!

Cheers
Mick

on the topic of improving what lurks under the LA's bonnet, does anyone have opinions on the 4G32T (11/83-12/85) or the 4G37 (9/86-10/90) as a swap for the 4G32 or 33? Is it relatively simple to put these motors in the LA?

Having just said that the 4G32 with weber and extractors is pretty good, I want a bit MORE without spending too much $$$
