4g32 rebuilding

Post by shuggy »

does anybody have any favorite branded parts for chains, rings? bearings etc for rebuilding 4g32s??

and does anybody have any experience of good engine builders in WA?

ive been in contact with RPW and they seem to be really knowlegable, but i spoke to my mate that used to race for mitsu and he had never heard of them so i thought i better check!

I believe Mal Crokenburg runs RPW ( might be wrong). If so, he's been playing with these motors for more than thirty years and knows what he's doing.
I think he may have worked for Coltspeed back in the hayday.

Yeah dad used to be in the Colt Sporting Car Club with him. I believe some one told him that Mal was running RPW. Not to sure how true that is.

Did we have any Factory Mitubishi teams in Australia?
The only factory drivers I can think of were Barry Ferguson,Doug Chivas and the Geoghans. From memory the guy that organised the valiant racing team was a German gentleman by the name of Harry Merkl.

when i had an excel twin cam i went to rpw for a heavy duty clutch and i had it installed by a clutch joint, drove it home carefully to let it bed in and not glaze up the next day clutch slip to the max had to go back to the clutch joint and found the clutch plate glazed up and had scored my flywheel so not too sure if it is the quality of the products rpw sells or the workmanship of the clutch joint. Just putting it out there so you can be more weary about the quality of rpw parts.

Just Googled Mal. Seems as though his business was sold at least 4 years ago.

He operated it with old Mitsubishi stalwart, Barry Lloyd................

Looks as though he retired to go rallying, been in some recent classics and Targa Tasmania.

Pistorf, thats correct as I know it up till Evo lancer times and ignoring the Starion. I think there was only one "sponsored" driver was it David Jones? cant remember, one or two got a fair bit of help from Mitsubishi (Janson got help on the Southern Cross's) but they are all pretty well known and by now very old guys :D re the clutch failure they dont make them there, they buy them in like most other people and sometimes things go wrong. Shuggy go for a drive and say hello stop mucking about! there arnt many people over there to trust with an old engine.

You missed rally team boss, Doug Stewart, Barry Lloyd....and I don't recall the Geoghans being Mitsubishi Works drivers.

Bazza also rallied LA's/A73's. I've lost contact with one of his son's ( he's changed his mobile no. due to change of jobs). When I get in touch with him I'll ask him when up to was it that he drove for Mitsubishi as a factory driver. I think he may have driven for Ralli-art up to the mid eighties.

We are still here and mal crockenburg was a completely seperate business to RPW. We have been doing our own modifying of vehicles since 1978, I came on board in 1989 and have been here ever since.

We still build complete 4G32 engines, but don't get into supplying all the individual components anymore. If you want a complete motor built that can be arranged from stock to heavily modified. We get literally over 30 - 40 emails every day and we just don't have time to respond to every single one all the time. Also many of the emails we get, when we respond back get bounced back to us. The other issue is people reply back to our emails but don't include the previous correspondance so of course, we have no idea of what they are talking about. Where this happens, they quite often get left behind as once again, I only have time to spend around 1 hour per day doing emails.
