Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?
Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?
Paul's car has a T51r but what he has found lately is that you can go a bit smaller in the exhaust wheel and not have any adverse affects thus helping response. One thing to remember is both the T51r and the gt42 have the same comp wheel it is in the exhaust that is the difference 71.8-76mm and the a/r of the exhaust housing comes into play have a look at a lot of the vl's down your way they are using modified 1.00 t4 style housings with a 76mm wheel. What housing was your mate using when he had the 42 on his car.

lpgalant are you saying that a gt42r is to small for a 2.6? (maybe i miss read your post)
I have seen a 250 crossflow in a cortina make nearly 640whp on fairly mild boost (18psi) though i dont know what exhaust housing he is running
A mate is building an SB2.2 headed 409ci chev small block thats running a pair of these gt42r turbo's and 16 1600cc injectors looking at an easy 1500+hp ad 7 something passes
Mic_77 may know the car

GH Sigma, 16" Mesh wheels, sports steering wheel and a V8 exhaust

I do not believe it is to big I think the comp wheel can go a bit bigger maybe the exhaust wheel is a little big but if you start pushing 700hp@wheels and beyond you will be better of with a s400 so you can play with wheel sizes as there are not that many options for the 42.

Hey stealth is there any point putting a gt42R on a standed sigma turbo manifold draw though running 10 PSI?
Or will it be 2 small???
Maby twin, 4 psi each?

It's ok. I pretty much have the info I need now to make an informed choice. So now I am sitting back and laughing at you 2 fighting like high school girls.
Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?
This turbo looks like a good price, but I think that is cause it is not a genuine Garrett. The turbine might also be too big for really fast spooling.

Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?
theres 3 things that suck about that turbo.
1. its NOT a garrett, its not even Ball bearing like the genuine GT28's are
2. its got a T25 flange, which is smaller than a T3 and ate a pain in the ass to work with
3. the turbine is actually quite small, more suited to a CA18 or SR20, youll likely run out of exhaust flow top end and choke it before it reaches its potential.
are you after a really punchy drive with loads of midrange or are you going for big HP that will rev fairly happily to redline?
it is cheap and will make a good reponsive engine.

What I am looking at for my Sigma Project is something I can drive on the road, and also take to the track. So pretty much after something for most of the rev range, not huge HP for straight line dragging.
Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?
that would be an ok choice, but i would try to find somehing with a turbine and larger AR rear so it can breathe easy

Re: Recommended Turbo for Astron II 2.6L?
I've ran quite a few mitsu turbos on my g54b starion throughout the years. all mitsubishi. All in the td05 .080 housing bored out for a td05h wheel.
18g was slightly lagg, but my favorite turbo Below 2600it was a dog, but by 2800 it felt like a freight train hitting you, and I could turn the tires during my drift runs up to 8krpm with sticky tires and 10lbs of boost. That turbo got me a best at stock 9.5lbs or whatever a 88 runs of 13.69@100.9mph on crappy street tires. That was tbi and only a 2.5inch exhaust
the super 16g is nice, spools very quickly, doesnt have that punch the 18g has, but will put you in your seat as well. You just ned to run more boost. This should have been the turbo the starion came with instead of the 12a.
14b 1g eclipse turbo. Basically like a 12a, spooled by 2300 or so and breaths better up top. I believe they flow around 460cfm in a td05 .080 housing.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep them in mind when it is time to get a turbo charger, etc.
