Jap 5sp / Scorpion Diff Strength

Post by Anchor »

Ok, so i have a Jap 5sp behind my SOHC 4g63t. Now it lasted 'ok' with 300rwhp. Bit crunchy on 1st-2nd-3rd but i think it was just my fugged clutch..

Will it last with 400rwhp?? Anyone got any experiences with that much power being thrown through one.

Also.. A welded scorpion diff, should be alright yeh? Have custom thick ass tailshaft and XF falcon uni joints..

Thanks guys

Edit: It's in my Nanabishi GH sigma (Pigma)

dont mind me mate on wot im about to say ;)

I reckon people procrastinate wayyyyyyyy toooooo much about these sort of topics. All i ever here is 'i broke this and that.... ra rar ra' and then start saying how many killa wasps they have!

It all comes down to how you drive. If you go around doing burnouts, roll backs, kicking the clutch, and slipping your foot off the clutch with a car youll break anything. I know a guy who has the most fucked ke30 corolla with a really tired 3k engine. He goes around doing the most stupid things trying to 'drift' and has broken that may gearboxes clutches, tailshafts, and diffs that anybody i have ever known!!!! but if you treat a car right people will find that their machinery lasts a heck of a lot longer. END RANT

Anyway mate i reckon with your sort of power you should get a auto or dog box. What do you do with this car? Drag race it?

......and oddly enough a 20+ year old box needs new bearings before you can give it a hard time, if the input bearing is on its way it will eat itself, hence the numnuts saying "hey I blew up my box they are crap" he should have said "Im stupid and dont like to spend money ,its my fault"

"can I put Corolla pistons in my Anchortron with a Hyundai head? will it do better burnouts with 40 solex's? "...... Im so needing coffee...

Ok so i have a Jap 5sp which has supposedly been 'beefed up'

Is there a model number for the box? Or which car it came on so i can get bearings and shit from repco. It's bolted up behind a 1g 4g63t SOHC.

I'm going to baby it until i get to powercruise. Then i can cut loose haha.

As soon as i get back i'll be doing a W58 conversion :) No time beforehand :(

Make sure you take your jackstands, spare box and diff to powercruise. You will definately need it if you plan on droppin skids.

Haha, you nailed it bro. I suggest skinny bald tires to reduce the strain on your driveline.
you'll need:
12 and 14mm sockets, spanners and a bucket to catch the oil for when the gearbox breaks.
May the force be with you.

Well i can safely say...

Starion 5sp and CIG locked scorpion diff can handle 340rwhp..
Box crunches a bit, but if you shift quick enough and get back on the gas you can't hear it over the turbo/screamer pipe haha.

Haven't tried sidestepping the clutch yet, npc 5 puck ceramic brass button solid center.

Ps, not using sigma tailshaft either obviously. Custom mega thick one with XF uni joints.

LOL Be Prepared hey

and astronturbo77 is spot on.

But it doesnt sound like you are going to baby this beast...

I got my SOHC 4G63T imported with GBox for my 4 Door LA.

It was all stock except B Button 5 puck clutch,
had i think about 120, 000 ks, and i gave it Hell.
only prob i developed, it started crunching into 3rd...

And sigma axles, i had a welded diff and kept twisting the splines and sheared 1 off, put metal shaving through the bearings and had to replace centre and axles....

Ended up going back to open wheel just to stop axles chatter and the tail shaft bolts and wheel nuts coming loose constantly...

Question has anyone done a full straight cut geared Starion box??
Just wondering costs?
Strength?

Advantages/Disadvantages over doing the Supra conversion?

Ive been in a WRX that had a Straight cut gear box (my mates Cousin)
1st to 4th were straight cut, but with sincros (im pretty sure from memory)
5th was normal gear....

After an half an hour you were just wanting him to drive around in 5th everywhere, its a painful noise for a daily...

Out of curiousity, what size spacer are you using on your short shifter ?
