1974 la lancer

Post by TRV28 »

im currently building a 1974 la lancer, the build has taken just over 2 years to get to this stage and it is almost finished.

astron2 m6 head,
wiseco 4g54b forged pistons,
argo rods,
knifebladed polished and balanced crank,
garrett gt35r, 38mm turbosmart ext. gate,
custom grind shaw cam, adjustable sprocket,
custom exhaust manifold, 3" mandel exhaust
intake manifold, ls1 75mm throttlebody,
microtech lt10s, x4 ignitor with coilpacks,
w58 supra box, ally tailshaft 1350series unis,
borgwarner diff 3.45:1, 31spline fullspool, billet axles,
front adjustable coilovers, 2link rearend,
bosch .044 efi pump, carter lift pump, rci fuel cell,
aeromotive rising rate fuel reg, 720cc injectors,
gk front slotted rotors/calipers, ford xh ute disc rearend.

all fabrication work has been done by myself with plenty of alcoholic beverages consumed.

on 27psi with c16 fuel in my previous build it made 380hp@wheels and ran 11.89@117mph, i hope for similar power results with this build only faster times.

this can be viewed on youtube,
900ber lancer walkaround
900ber lancer rev (excuse my brother for scratching his ar$e)
900ber lancer first start

also my previous car which i build in a month then continually repaired for 4 years,

i haven't run this car yet so im not sure what sort of time it would do, im hoping low 11s maybe better. i was planning on running it at willowbank next week but i may have to put that on hold as i blew head gasket in daily driver which will consume my funds for a little while.

the car is nearly complete i only have tacho to wire up and fitting thermo fan left to do, i would like to get it tuned and a wheel alignment before i run it just to make sure everything is running sweet.

im using throttlebody off ls1 holden(chev) it measures 75mm butterfly. custom plenium which i made up and welded to tr magna intake manifold which has bigger ports and matches tr magna head which im also using.

there are 4, 1/2"unf bolts holding tailshaft to diff flange they should hold up no problems.

i took the lancer for dyno tune on the friday and the intake manifold gasket started leaking between runner one and coolant port so when it came on boost it pressurised the cooling system. i fixed that and decided to check tension on head studs because i hadnt torqued it down for the second time. i brought it back to dyno on monday after and the lancer ran up 384hp@27psi. as we took it off the dyno i noticed the head gasket had blown on the left side under cylinder one where the coolant ports run through the block. upon further investigation i found the head studs around cylinder one were loose again so i think i will be pulling the head off and replcing the head gasket. im a bit suspicious the block may be warped too. im looking into getting a multi-layer steel gasket for it.

just a bit of an up date for my lancer,

i managed to chase down a group of people that were getting a multi-layered steel head gasket made up for astron engines made by cometics usa, but after they got stuffed around for about 8 weeks with no further progress i dropped that idea and purchased a .60thou copper headgasket and just got my head back from being o-ringed. i found i had damage to the spiggot on the cam where the sprocket locates so i had that machined and sleeved as well. hopefully i will have engine assembled and running tonight then possibly dyno on friday and drags next wednesday night.

Wow, how much is that kit?
That would fix all of my problems.

Also, what are your front rims off. They are 4 stud aren't they. Are they off a Toyota Hiace?

the locating pin on cam was stuffed and hole on cam gear was damaged so we repaired that and made solid pin to press into cam. the hollow dowel pin collapsing is what caused all the damage.

i got to run lancer at willowbank last wednesday night, first run i pulled 12.04@119mph, i was shifting at around 5000rpm and had a poor 2.15sec 60foot. second run didn't go as well gearbox started to get really tight and wouldn't shift properly. by about the fourth run the gearbox was extremely noisey and was taking to long to shift. i then just concentrated on improving my 60foot times seeing as i paid entry, fuel etc. already, i managed to get down to 1.93 60foot which is ok but not anything to write home about. by the end of the night without being able to select 4th gear anymore i managed 13.1@87mph. i think automatic is what i really need but mortgage repayments won't allow me to fund that so i will perserfere with w58 supra gearbox and see how i go.

my rear end is mcdonald bros 2 link kit the chromoly one, i think around $500 from memory i can't really remember as i bought 31spline full spool off them at the same time.

my front rims are off nissan tiida 15" steelies, i cut the centres out then purchased 15"x4" roh outerband and welded the nissan centres into the bands at the right offset to clear the coilovers. i also had to skim 1mm out of centre hole to clear sigma spiggot as sigma has 68mm and nissan has 66mm spiggot. it was alot of work but i couldn't get 15"x4" rims in 4x144.3mm stud pattern with enough negative offset to clear my coilovers. i also have another pair of rims off some near new honda with same stud pattern which i will do same conversion to run m/t front runner tyres. i don't like the nissan tiida rims as much as the honda ones because the nissan centres appear to be made from material too thin.
