oh well im sure il find something, i think i might just get a compressor and dryer and everything off a newer car, like a small car, and make a mounting plate, and then get someone to hook it all up for me at the end. coz i have no idea how im going to hook it up hey..

I've seen a few too.

Buy an air-con set up off a Colt, it would be your easiest fit up as they are a 4G32B motor so the mounting points should fit.

Righto, my GB had aircon and it worked a treat. custom braket and definately not factory but maybe dealer optioned. The main unit was a smiths mark IV. worked very well and had enough room for passenger feet too.

I suspect that the colt one will need alot of work to get in and the heater/exchanger box would cause you the biggest drama. If you want new then talk with Melbourne auto air. they have brand new under dash units liek the smiths ones for approx $450. You then need the compressor and lines made up and all is good. This by far will be the easiest option as the compressor from a colt shoudl in theory work for the MAA underdash unit. Ring them and ask the questions they are the professionals. all you then need is a fridgy to test and gas it and job done.

On a side note, if you get a R12 compressor you can use LPG as your coolant gas, will get down to 2 degrees and has a similar heat operation to the original R12 refrig.. ;)

Cheers

R12 is a refrig gas type. it is found in alot of older fridges and early car aircons, because teh the ozone depleting cfc's the gas has been banded and cannot be regassed, thus gets converted to R134a. this gas does not have the same properties as R12 and thus does not perform as well. If you convert the compressor to a R134a type then the performance of teh gas will improve BUT it is still nowhere near what R12 was. There are some R12 drop in replacem, ents which dont do too bad a job but the LPG is the best out of them. My advice would be to use LPG and get new hoses made up, they should only cost approx $120.

I knew you were in WA but the fact is there are not too many placed which do hotrods or after market airconditioning. Knowing that WA can be a little behind in this stake I suggested a Melbourne supplier that I know has this stuff and so expected that you would therefore be able to at least start discussions to point you in the right direction. They might even have a wa destributor, but I have dealt with them before for my EH.

Cheers

PS; I dare say I will be dealing with them again when I look into the GD sedan again.. ;)

just found out the car is on a train somewhere between here and adelaide.. that was fast ;-)

also found an A73 for potential 5 speed donor, the owner knows nothing so im hoping that being a project rally car when he bought it that it may just maybe have a works cam?
