OK folks,
I have been rolling some thoughts around and want to ask everyones opinion.

I want to eventually repaint my car, in a factory colour.
And I want to change the colour of the interior to a more subtle colour...
So consider what i am proposing for either as it is now,
and/or also as a car closer to stock, but still has custom interior etc...

Is my Lancer worth more,
and does it have more credability amongst enthusiests,
with the fuel injected turbo motor?
OR
if i put a 4G32 (1600) with twin carbs, stock gearbox and diff???

I have been leaning towards the idea of putting the 2 door back to close to stock, and enjoy it as a cool cruiser,
and i am thinking it would be actually worth more, and get more interest from collectors and enthusiests??
And I will put the turbo motor and driveline into a 4 door...

BUT considering the 2 door is already engineered for the motor etc, would it be counter productive???

All thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Cheers Dan

I personally like a stock looking LA. Years ago I saw a really tidy 2 door LA in the factory green and it looked great.

I have spoken to you about this before in person.
But I'll write it here for everyone else's benefit so they can comment on what I have said.

I think the car is too highly modified to change it back to standard easily (I'm referring mostly interior here). How would you go getting tidy original door trims etc for it now anyway?

As for the exterior colour/style of the car, I think the car looks fantastic the way it is. I show people photo's of our meet ups and it's your car they go wow over.
I think it would be a shame to change it all back to a more standard look, but I understand why you would want to.

I disagree. Just look at Mad Day, 77galantv6's car was getting all the looks and appreciation while he had it's bonnet open. They would see his motor and then progress to check the whole car out, and then walk away without even looking at my twin carb setup and lightly modified car.
As far as value goes, I think the amount of time/money it would cost to change it back would make it not worth it.

When it's all said and done, it's your car so do what you want, and you know I'll help you do it when and if I can, but I think when you finish it, you will be disappointed with the result?

Remember, you can't stand how slow my wagon is. Because that is the ball park of what you are suggesting for yours

As dave has stated mate it gone too far to be put back to original in my opinion, i assume it would be very difficult to find all the original trim pieces etc to fix it. Id say keep going as you are, if you want a stocker maybe invest in a tidy sedan?

I was thinking that really, apart from the gearbox tunnel being cut back by the old owner for gearstick.
And the radiator support panel having some holes cut bigger for the intercooler pipes.

But yeah the front seats arent original, and the trims are all tampered with.
So maybe it wouldnt really be worth the money to go back to nearly stock anyway, and its not an A73...

Hey Dan, I like the way your car is coming along and think returning it to stock, or stockish, would be a backwards step.
I think astronturbo77's idea of a nice tidy sedan is the way to go and turns out, one was just put up for sale that would be perfect, IMHO

I tend to agree.Maybe a stockish interior but the car looks great in my opinion. As for values, I had a lot of negative feedback from people when I advertised the 2 one owner lancers I sold recently.I sold the silver LA for $3300 and the yellow LB for $3500.That LB was the cleanest, most original car you would ever find with a genuine 43,000 kms from new.Datsuns, escorts in similar condition would sell for twice that.I think a stock 2 door LA would be lucky to sell for $6000 but your car would be worth $10,000+ for being unique. My opinion anyway.

Im with smithy say if you wanted to sell right now and I had the money I personally would be offering 15k or more because the car is mint and in agreeance with dave whenever I mention the forum or trips with mates I show three of my favourite examples your LA, 76galantV6's sedan and daves gc wagon. So keeping it to the standard its modified at is a great idea but that's just my own opinion

Been awhile since i updated this build, been slowly plugging away.

MAY have discovered a way to get around making an airbox in a tight engine bay.
I can only give it ago, and i thought it may help others.

The EPA and cops say you cannont have an exposed filter element.

But this basic, and cheap Filter can be brought off ebay for about $20
The element is similar or the same as normal cone shaped filters you can buy,
But due to the outer casing (Carbon fibre look) it means the filter is covered.
If you dont like the carbon fibre look, you could probably paint it, or replace it (Its only pop riveted on)
It comes in different lengths, which will help with tight applications as i said
and once cleared for rego you can alway replace this unit with a better quality filter.

Here is the Ebay link (I am not selling this item, nor do i know the supplier!)

100mm - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JDM-Performa ... 2eb5b68c86
130mm - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JDM-Performa ... 2a1141057f
155mm - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JDM-Performa ... 2a1140daa9

And some pics of the filter unit

This is what i am thinking, is mount the filter intake almost against the inner gaurd, or directly behind the headlight,
and it means you cant see the filter element which seems to be what they are worried about the most..??

I really like the HT lead covers, where did you get them from?

Ill just put them in the doors.

The leads covers are just ebay specials,
for a V8 but they were a good price so just use half the set, and sell on to someone else the other half..?
