Unofficial Aslan Appreciation Page
This page is a humble tribute to the 1970's UK Christian Folk band "Aslan" who released two albums...
"Their enjoyment of music is infectious. As they sing, they include you 'in' turning spectators into friends sharing songs. This is because the group itself is built on friendship and shared experience. Behind the scenes are three more group members, each as important as a musician. Vivien, Pete's wife, is group secretary and treasurer, Alan, Pam's husband, is the group sage, dreaming up drama and design, and occasionally appearing before the footlights, like a crumpled uncle at a children's party, to read a poem or two, John, Linda's husband, is the technical trouble-shooter, ensuring the group's safety and visibility by anchoring the mini bus and earthing the lights. But there's no pecking order."
"Take three couples and separate. Break the songers carefully into a bowl. Add mixed instruments, half a cupful of folk, two heaped tablespoons of gospel and season with blues to taste. Pour in a pint or more of insanity and beat well (for their own good). When the mixture has settled, take the remaining ingredients - two husbands, a wife, and a dash of poetry - add to the bowl and whisk until frothy (not to say exceedingly frothy ........) Leave to stand in front of an audience at room temperature for a couple of hours. Grease the tin thoroughly with laughter and bake in the love of Christ. The result is Aslan Pie, and judging by the demand for second helpings, it's distinctly more-ish."
The following are 21st century re-imaginings inspired by the original songs by Aslan tribute hobby band "Baby Aslan". Not all of them exist yet, we're aiming for one release per year. Please enjoy with a side-serving of original Aslan for comparison.
