4G54 turbo GB
G'day all. Like most projects this one is taking longer than expected but recent progress has been reasonable so I thought I'd post a cuppla pics. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d15/Delta34/Side_zpsgmuiii6d.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d15/Delta34/Rear_zpsrzfbmstu.jpeg http://i32.photobu...

Re: My 4G32 rally engine project
Howdy all. Mapped the inlet valve motion paths today, comparing the standard rocker with the roller rocker - see chart in the Photobucket link above. Result was probably not anybody expected - especially not the reduced maximum lift. What's also interesting is that the maximum valve lift of this cam...

Re: My 4G32 rally engine project
Yep, thanks, I'm aware of the difference in radii. I want to quantify what that means in terms of change in motion paths - so it'll be out with the dial indicator and degree wheel over the holidays. All part of the learning process, and any time spent in the shed is far preferable to the shite that'...

Re: My 4G32 rally engine project
Thanks for that, I think I'll be fine to do it with pistons in situ - prior to machining the head and block I checked the piston-to-valve clearance with #5 cam and roller rockers (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/16LGS/library/) and the opening and closing timing looked to be about right (although ...

Re: My 4G32 rally engine project
Bugger, I just wrote this big long reply, saved it as a draft, now I can't find it! Anyway, in short: - don't have a power target. If I do everything I can reasonably do, and do it well, I ought to get more than my C2-ish chain drive 4G32 - current chain engine is very reliable in tarmac rallying, 4...

My 4G32 rally engine project
Greetings all. Thought some of you may be interested in this project. Basically I wanted to build a 1600cc-ish carby 4G32 with maximum possible output. Here's the project so far: - modified 4G37 pistons - 4G37 head with extensive port mods (inlet flowing to 175cfm from memory) - 12.5:1 static compre...

Re: 4G32B/4G37 hybrid
I reckon there's a couple of options to overcome the dilemma - (1) Seek CAMS approval for a 4G32 belt drive as a replacement for 4G32 chain drive (shouldn't be an issue) then build a 4G32 belt drive with 4G37 head and custom pistons to remain within the desired engine capacity class (and regain comp...

Re: 4G32B/4G37 hybrid
True story Dave, although if I make application I cant imagine why it wouldn't be an acceptable substitute - same manufacturer, number of cylinders, camshafts, valves, dimensionally interchangeable and all that....then again, given the vagaries of CAMS....

Re: 4G32B/4G37 hybrid
Thanks Cheaterparts, I think you're correct - 4G62 would be the long term solution. But with two car projects, a boat project, and a house project, time is of the essence. I only do a couple of events a year so the simple way of getting a bit more grunt is probably the most achievable way! And the c...

Re: 4G32B/4G37 hybrid
Gotta love all this great feedback and discussion. Great stuff.. The 4G37 was in the first model Nimbus (or Wombus or Nimbat as we called them at the time) and yes its a Saturn. My take on it is that MMC wanted some more grunt out of the 4G32, and needed better flow to get it - but the chambers were...

Re: 4G32B/4G37 hybrid
Thanks all, good feedback and encouraging. I've found a 4G37 donor engine, $150, just have to get it back from east of Melbourne somehow. A 4G32 Colt engine should be easy and cheap to find. The big question is "Can it be bored to (I think) 80.6mm like the chain drives?" Re the 4G35 head, ...

4G32B/4G37 hybrid
Hi all, interested in your views on this one. I have a chain drive 4G32 in my tarmac rally car, 1770cc, 10.5:1, good port work, 45 DCOEs, #5 cam, decent headers. It goes okay, but like everybody I need more grunt! I've looked at all the options (eg 4G62, 4G54 etc) but for several reasons I'd like to...

4G54 Balance shaft removal
G'day, just a bit of advice please... When removing the balance shafts from a 4G54, what needs to be done to prevent loss of oil pressure? I figure that: 1. The inner bore of the oil pump gear that drives one shaft can be blocked up with a plug, and 2. The bearing bore on the other side, which has a...

4G54 into GB
G'day all. I'm about to fit a 2.6 Astron 1 into my GB. The engine I have is a jap block 2.6 manual, which is of course wider than the auto. In previous conversions I have used a 2.6 auto block, and the narrower bell housing gearbox (from a 2.0l manual car). But this time I'd like to use the maual bl...
