If I can spend somebody else's money, I'll take pretty much anything BMW's put into an M3.

Sorry to criticize, it really isn't my thing but hell son that's a dreamer, reader of street machine dreamer list, I am assuming you are 17 at best?.

To be constructive
Gen 3 = Antiquated, old school, push rod shit.
As much as i hate these engines I still have to say that they're not a bad thing, compact light and strong, Huge after market and the potential to make big HP

You do know that the ohv push rod really isnt that old tech when you considder the first OHC engine was made in 1898 by Wilkinson, and the first DOHC in came along in 1925

First OHV V8 was made 1949

OHC technology is as old as the sun, it was just too expensive in the early days to put into full production

4 Cyl: R39B out of the Colt F2000 race car
6 Cyl: the motor in the 997.2 911 GT3RS 3.8L. 330KW N/A, more power than HSV from two less cyl.
8 Cyl: AMG's 6.2l. My boss has a Cl63 and his son used to have E63 and I tell you now the sound is pure heaven.

When I worked for Mercedes I used to drive C63's, CLK63's etc every day, they have the best sounding exhaust note of any car I've ever seen :D
Still, all I can say is wait 'til you hear an SL65 Black ;) 6.5L twin turbo V12 FTW :D
I'm adding to my list: AMG 6.5L twin turbo V12, AMG 6.3L V8, Toyota 1GZ-FE 5L V12, E46 M3 3.2L six, Group B Audi 2.3L 5cyl, Toyota 3UZ-F. 4.3L V8 and the 5L BMW V8 from the last M5

Lucky Basturd. I would love to be able to have drive of one. I imagine that their fuel consumption would be a lot higher than manufacturers quote due the sound of the motor. :D

Edit: I imagine that their fuel consumption would be a lot higher than manufacturers quote due to the owner wanting to hear that beautiful sound of that V8.

IIRC they do better on fuel than the equivalent Commodore/Falcon, so around 14L/100km sounds right. Heaps better than the old 4spd 253 VC I was driving at the time lol
Gotta love ACT licencing regs :D

Mopar 340 or Hemi 426.

Jag XK 3.4/3.8/4.2 (quite an amazing engine for the era).......or for a diesel......Detriot 6/72 (I agree about the sound, and I've worked on them)

Mitsu 4G63GS I had in my blue GB. Factory twin carb version of Starion engine (with minor mods)....torque+revs+reliability+smooth....... Try and find another, I only knew of one other in Oz, in a yellow LB......My old GB may still be around somewhere as the rego plate is not available.
