Pod filters ...the alternative

For years I have been looking for an alternative to the open pod filter in my engine bay. I gave up hunting down a factory turbo filter housing....gave up trying to adapt a EFI Magna filter setup.

I have been eyeing the K&N enclosed pod filters for a while. I went to Supercheap and did a quick measure and figured that I would have to relocate the radiator overflow tank, and the washed bottle would have to be buried under the filter ducting.

But now that it is in place I do not know how I put up with the old pod for so long. Best part is that the ducting goes through an existing hole behind the headlight, and out into the cool fresh air.

Was the k and n a specific item for the sigma turbo, or was it a universal kit?

Universal off eBay. The only thing extra I had to buy was a 75mm to 70mm reducer between the carby elbow and the filter housing.

And move the radiator expansion tank (as in the pic)

Cordia turbo air box. Fits nicely in the factory spot, has a bigger filter (and a replacement element is easy enough to get) and has the inlet for the breather from the engine. You'll need a section of ducting obviously to connect it and a bit if fiddling to mount it (you'll twist it about until it sits in there and will need a bracket to bolt it down) and also will need to figure out how to direct air into it as the inlet on the side of the air box faces forward but not to a point allowing air in from outside the engine bay.

I saw a pic on here of the Cordia filter box, and it would have been perfect. But I could never find one on ebay, and they just do not exist in my neck of the woods.

Time for a 'wanted ad' methinks. 8-)

What's the noise difference on the closed compared to the open?

Eliminates all induction noise...which is great if you have a turbo... because now I can hear the turbo spooling up

Air induction noise is over-rated.
