No changing the carby will more than likely not change a thing. these things like to run on backwards when turned off, there are a few causes:

-engine running too lean
- too much static timing
-excessive carbon build up ontop of pistons and in ports
- check you idle solenoid cut off valve is opperating correctly.

My Sigma would occasionally run on after a longish drive (work was 45k's, and had a 50% chance of running on when i turned it off). After putting on a set of extractors about 3 months ago it hasn't run on once. Whatever was causing it was fixed by changing the exhaust manifold.

hmmm. well the carby is very crap anyway, so i'm replacing it anyway. the car does get hot too. so maby detonating or something when turned off and still sucking fuel from the carby??? i just drove 15kms home and it did it. so far, it always does it.

you could try to decarbonise it... if the timing isn't the issue, it should help

if your a bogan... hold it flat and dump a jug of water down the carby...
otherwise, hold it at about 2500 - 3000 rpm and pour a slow steady stream of water down the carby without stalling it...
i usually use 1 2l bottle... i had a subaru wagon i mustve emptied 10l into before it stopped blowing carbon out the exhaust..
put something behind the exhaust so you can see whatever comes out

just something i like to do to old shitboxes that i think makes them run better,
perform at own risk

do not put a whole jug downat once haha, yes a little at a time is ok, but if a cylinder sucks in 100ml of water, then tries to compress it to 50ml.. what happens tot he water? goes into your sump, or if your rings are good enough bend a rod or blow water through the head gasket?

yeah, i kinda figured i wouldn't put much down lol. i have seen a motor with a rod out the side before lol. anywan, wouldn't pouring heaps down stall it? i'd just do little bits at a time lol. . or just pull the head off. i've done it that many times its like an hour for me to get it off now lol and clean it with a brush or screwdriver

Just remove the air filter, then with one hand on the throttle just hold throttle open a little while slowlypouring water into the carb(make sure pour into the primay throat not secondary). Just blip the throttle as necessary to keep the motor from stalling.

Ive done it many times on different cars/motors. Generally works best on cars that are driven gently. If your constatly bouncing off redline an lots of wide open throttle then it will have the least effect.

trust me, its a lot easier than taking the head off... especially if its a tired motor you dont really wanna bother too much with

na i dont want to bother much with it lol..

i drive it very slow. . it is completely gutless anyway. i gave it some yesterday to see how it went . . . i hit 4000rpm just. i had to wait for it. and that was 1st or 2nd gear! nat said it smelt real bad and puffed smoke too when i did it as she was behind me. the guy said a good motor was put in a little while ago, so i'm leaning towards a bad carby again. the car does have 365,000kms. so if the carby is original. . :s eeek

astronturbo77 is on the money 100%. The fact that it is running on getting hot and not running great means some time and investigation is required to resolve your issue. Follow what astronturbo77 stated and also use the water treament to de choke the cylinders. the easiest way I have done this before is with a spray bottle from a garden supplier which enables me to pressurise the system and then "inject" water into the airstream. I do this because there is control and also I do EFI cars with it too.

There can be a number of issues which result in your symptums so follow advice given and do a general tune. Multiple things could be wrong and if you have not gone through a process then you potentially will pull the head off for nothign but expense and a revisit to a process and illimination list.

Cheers

well i plan on changing the carby on monday as i think its running lean, which could be causing it i think. .

The level coolant is good and doesn't go down, but the radiator is very bad condition with a lot of fins corroded and brushing off with the slight touch of my pinky finger. . so that could be the over heating issue.
