3.5L stroker kit? I want one
Re: 3.5L stroker kit? I want one
Wouldn't it make an astron into more of a truck motor? The torque would be great but it wouldn't be the best for trying to get high rpm out of. You'd need 3.0 diff gears for the drags!

In terms of drag racing, it'd be going backwards.. As a few of us have said already it wont rev up too quickly at all
But combined with a strong driveline and really sticky big tyres it'd pull some impressive wheelstands and takeoffs in general.
Would also be good for a streeter as it'd have a towing capacity like never seen before on a 4cyl.
Also Mitsubishi Canter trucks used a 2.6 astron so it's already a truck motor

gee if you want bottom end torque for a tow car and streeter a turbo will make more
than a stroker for less money as ASTRON HEADS DONT FLOW and strocker wont rev
you cant have everything you know

and before someone comes up with the idea that you can port the head to make it flowstealth wrote: than a stroker for less money as ASTRON HEADS DONT FLOW and strocker wont rev

there is a bit there . But the biggest problem is they need BIGGER valves
if you use the old rule of thumb the port size ( inlet ) should be about 80 % of the dia of the valve
so with a magna m6/7/8/9 the port is about 42 mm dia that port should work better with a 52 mm valve 52 x .8 = 41.6 . guess what thats not easy std is 46 mm
47mm will go into std seats
I remember back almost in the dark ages ( I think the rallyant ) may have been the punter that tryed a 50 mm or 2" valve that was cut into the aluminium ( seat gone ) and was used on a flow bench . The numbers were quite good however 50 mm inlet and say 40 mm exhuasts dont just fit there are some clearance isues and not enough meat between the new seats that would need to be fitted

I never said stroking was cost effective, and I remember saying it's only worth it with a turbo/supercharger as wellstealth wrote:gee if you want bottom end torque for a tow car and streeter a turbo will make more

Also the fact an 'NA stroker wont rev' has been mentioned a couple times too

The head on my car is an M2 casting. It has larger exhaust valves fitted which was fairly involved, but is not ported. It goes pretty well I would say but most would not get to the stage where they maxxed out the flow of the head.

yeah but your putting compressed air/fuel in so no your not going to max out flow
but na with big cam and comp is another story and without injection what hope
do you have of making good power figures (bugger all) considering you can more
power per liter out of old school v8
its dissapointing

ha I even looked at running one of those engines that was basically a big block chev cut in half and used a custom crank. It was roughly about 250 cubes. I would have done it but they wanted 9k US for the crank. One ran low 7's NA in an altered. Would have been easy as there is big block stuff everywhere.
Ask the Puerto Rican's nicely if they'd sell you one of their billet heads.

Sounds awesome, got any more info on that? Should fit a little easier than the 2j I tried to squeeze in my coupe.

This would be the 3.7l Mercruiser 470 its actually half a ford 460 but has a chev gearbox pattern so theres plenty of good heads and boxes out thererx22nv wrote:Sounds awesome, got any more info on that? Should fit a little easier than the 2j I tried to squeeze in my coupe.
I had one in my old Hains Hunter

never seen the chev version of the 470, I know some of the smaller ones had chev heads would be a wise step to steer clear of i think, the BBF version has the better head design and bore spacing

Re: 3.5L stroker kit? I want one
So it uses 460 rods and pistons too? I fif a bit of research and found that same info, ford head with the chev bellhousing pattern. Would go well with a gt47 strapped to the side and my powerglide on the back of it. Anyone ever seen one for sale, I'm trying to estimate how much they are worth.amgis_obrut wrote:This would be the 3.7l Mercruiser 470 its actually half a ford 460 but has a chev gearbox pattern so theres plenty of good heads and boxes out thererx22nv wrote:Sounds awesome, got any more info on that? Re: 3.5L stroker kit? I want one
rods and pistons are the same so theres plenty of off the shelf stroker piston and rod combo's
haha give it a +30 over bore and off set the crank so you have 4.14" stroke and you have 251ci, or even +80 and have 256ci you can use an off the shelf 6.8" BBC rod most bbf stroker that suit either 6.7" or 6.8" rods only come in +30 or +80
you could even go a 4.3" off set ground stroke and then a 4.44" bore (+80) and have a 266ci engine
Imagine a Kaase Boss Nine or P-51 headed 266ci 4 cyl with a 6/71
