So one doesn't need a custom tail shaft?
I am collecting parts for the conversion, and this has been playing on my mind a bit. I got a narrow Jap, with the short extension housing (out of a l200)

there are 4 different tail shaft's according to the GE book I have.

length between U joint centres
manual trans (except 2dr) - 1254.5mm
manual trans (2dr) - 1277.0mm
Auto BW35 - 1324.0mm
Auto A904 - 1177.0mm

I had multiple attempts at completing a auto (borg warner 35) to a manual Jap box... The tail shaft length is fine its the number of splines in the yoke you have got to watch out for, had to swap yoke out and get new universal joint to get it to mate up. From memory it was only the difference between 22 and 23 splines.
