Looking at getting a hilux diff for my car, (LA Lancer 4 door) and just wanted to know if anyone has done this conversion before and if they had any trouble with fitting it? like with the actual size of the diff housing (especially the diffs center).



any help would be greatly appreciated

It probably depends on how low you want to go.
Hilux should be fine - I have a ford 9" in mine and would only be a problem hitting the floor if really low.

Be sure to factor in a good aftermarket plate or mechanical LSD centre - don't rely on the shitty factory stuff.

An alternative may be Datsun 720 4x4 (early). I seem to recall measuring one up and it being damn close to the correct width meaning you would only have to play around with brakes and a re-stud rather than shortening axles. LSD centres and ratios would be harder to get though.

might fit...will stick to the standard set-up for our cars.

Datsun 720 ute diffs are a type of direct replacement...same track (I have read)
A well known race car driver had one in his 4G63T equipped LC Lancer
If you are lucky it will be a LSD as well.Do your research

Regardless of what you use your going to have get the mounts moved inboard and the stud pattern changed to suit the lancer.
Hilux's are a good all round alternative. good strength, lots of ratios and lsd options and parts are easy to come by.

P.S. RN25 hilux diff is a direct fit to a mk1 escort......

Do any Hilux Axle Housings have a 3'' Axle Tube and on center? and possible short to work on a gh sigma?
