HELP

Post by 22dodge »

Could someone kindly help me locate an M9 head for my 2.6 engine. salvage yard, web page, etc?

I have spent many hours searching but I'm not having any luck. Here in the USA, we have a web page www.car-part.com is there anything like that in Australia?

no help?

I wish someone could help me with a part number for the M9 head. I go to the Mitsubishi dealers in the US and the responce I get, you'd think I had 2 heads.

your avatar looks just like my race car. Over here it's called a Dodge Challenger or Plymouth Sapporo 1978-1982 was the years available. The most I can make for compression is 9:1. I really need 11½:1 or more to be competative.

There is another option available, if you are allowed to use different pistons.

A 1981-82 Celica 22R piston or a Holden 202 piston.

Image
Cheater has machined the 202 piston to fit the dome of an early astron head (piston on the right).

The piston on the left is a Wiseco forged 22R Celica. it has a 3mm more compression height than a standard astron piston, and a 24.7cc dome.
you would either need to use a 2.5mm de-compression plate or machine the edges of the pistons (like cheater has done to the Holden piston) to match the dome of the head.
It would give you a CR of around 16:1 using an M6 or M7 Magna head.

If you were going to use the standard cast celica piston, they don't have a dome, they have a circular raised section, which could be easily machined off when machining the edge.
This would give you more options on a lower compression ratio engine.

The pistons on eBay
The cast pistons aren't ideal for racing as you would know but it would be a good place to start your design.

Cheers.

Aren't they the pistons you get if you're doing a 2.4 de-stroker?

thank you for the piston information. I picked up some stock toyota pistons. I'll be doing some experimentation and measuring.

If you have a good M9 head, let's talk price.

Well it's been sitting at a mates for a while so make an offer for it? Its in very good condition. Not sure about shipping to your place but I would say by cheap air would be best?

well, I got the toyota pistons mocked up. I marked where I need valve reliefs and my friend is going to spot face the pistons. I also milled the head 0.120" (3mm). Should around 13:1. I hope this will get me the power I need to compete against those pesky Dodge Neon's

Hello, I need to revisit this topic.

I was sizing up the toyota pistons. I don't see any way to make it work. by the time I machine down the piston above the ring to clear the head, I have .100" between the top of the piston and ring. that's way to short a distance. Going that low will cause ring failure.

So back to my first question, can anyone help me locate an M9 head?

cheers.
