4g32 wrong head?

Need some advice re my new 4g32

Its fresh, only 0.025 os and came with a sexy stand

But

I feel the head is wrong. There are these galleys that aren't covered? I filled them with some solvent and jammed a screwdriver in each one but they seemed to go nowhere, but I'm scared they are just blocked.

Anyone have a block and head combo like that?

Sorry, I could be a bit confused from the photos, but which holes are you worried about??? :-)

I've got a feeling there are 2 types of 4G32 head. Looks like the galleries you have exposed are oil returns to the sump. Don't jam anything down in there as it can only go to one place (that's if they ARE oil return galleries...) :|

Talking about the 3 holes on the deck of the block along the intake side that protrude down the side of the block

Might be a factory turbo block?? With oil return??

?May be a block from a belt driven motor? Have a internet search for a picture of a belt drive 32 head gasket

Did you buy this motor recently from victoria by chance?

I had problems with an incompatible head and block, including coolant galleries in the head overlapping the side of the block. The head was from a late model, the block was from an early model. There are a few variations I think.
It should be ok, You may have to block off galleries if they don't line up.

You can see the top of the alloy timing cover so this one can be crossed off the list. Having galleries like the ones cast on the outside of the block is a radical difference to most Saturn engines. Without knowing the blocks origins (chassis number, model type etc) it makes it hard to track down what should be on this engine.

Yeh the ebay old stock ones that were up.

I just want someone to tell me if these galleys actually go anywhere or not lol

Here is belt drive gasket. Seems legit. What are those though. Were they oil or water?

It's just weird how I filled them with solvent and poked with a screwdriver and they didn't drain. Possible that they used the same cast but didn't drill them out?

There are two different 4G32 chaindrive, roundport motors.

Early motors (GA, GB, maybe GC ?) measure 115mm across the head face, and take head gasket AJ690

Later motors ... I think 1976 on ? (GC ?, definitely GD, definitely Lancer) measure 125mm across the head face and take head gasket BD010. These have the EGR port in the head, etc.

I'm doing some major work on my HJ this weekend, but I'll also try to squeeze in a look at the details of my last head re-con a couple of months ago, to see if I can find any useful info for you :-)
