some 4G3 cranks are nitrided, for example the GS cranks..... others dunno.... wont make any extra HP, wears better and is suited to race use, in short unless you are racing it its not worth worrying about (and even racing at the level most would with a 4G3 it isnt worth worrying about). If its ground the nitriding is probably gone anyway..... should go in no problems if you want to .

According to the factory Engine Service Manual for the 4G32/4G33 ...

The crankshaft for the 4G32 engine has been taftrided*. The taftrided surface of the crankshaft is gray. The crankshaft for the 4G33 engine has an embossed mark "31" on No. 1 arm.

Sounds like your informant has his info the wrong way around .....

* Note : I assume they actually mean "tuftrided", which is the same as "nitrided".

I'm 99 percent sure it's the 33 that had the nitrited shaft.

Based on advertised nitrited cranks for sale over seas. And an ex Mitsubishi works rally driver is the one that initially told me. Doesn't matter anyway I'm gonna just use the 32 crank.
