Opinions on new paint job

My canary sigma has a few rough areas in the paint job and im taking it to get resprayed. Im going to stay with the canary yellow over black but I am thinking of adding a metallic or pearl into the paint to brighten it up a bit. At the moment its just the normal solid canary yellow. It will be a daily driver so I dont think I will be looking at anything crazy like candy paint, however if I decide on something that a bit harder to match in the case of rock chips I might buy some extra paint incase.

I quite like the idea of pearl since I think it looks more smooth compared to metallic which has metal flakes in it. My aim is to keep the "traditional" canary yellow without looking lifeless. Also considering a flipping pearl paint, but not sure on what colour would match yellow. i.e. the colour that flips

Any suggestions?

If you were going to mix something with yellow it should probably be a colour either side of it on the spectrum. ie. orange or green

I reckon Orange/yellow would look pretty cool with a black two tone.

Just my opinion, but
Get rid of the black and just do it the canary yellow.
Looking at pics of the car I think the difference between the 2 colours it too stark.
Change the rims to something that is a deeper dish and fill the guards out, and looks more aggressive.

Sometimes less is more.

You won't be able to touch up pearls and things, they are generally a coating that is mixed in with the clear.
I think going for a pearl or something like that is just making life harder for yourself.
If you stay with an off the shelf metallic you will be able to touch it up no problem.

IMHO, I think the two tone looks good, but as Dave said it is a bit of a stark difference. I would keep the yellow and perhaps go for a dark grey (yellow based Gun metal?) just to soften the change also I would think about putting the bump stips back on the doors, leaving them and your bumpers black but painting the chrome trim yellow. I think the straight colours are the go, pearl and harlequin are for tossers who need to be looked at
Gotta loose the bonnet, the scoops look too "home made"
Over all though I really like the car and the fact that it is different to the norm.

I painted a few of my old R/C boats a similar colour to your Sig,but in Clear Over Base and added 25% Lilac Pearl tinter to the yellow. When it was cleared, the Lilac showed through as a pinkish tinge in the yellow. I also painted a Suzuki 50 quad for my mates son in that colour and added some PPG Prismatique to the clear. This is like a very course metallic flake in multi colours. the problem with this stuff is that you need to cut the clear and flowcoat it and over a light colour,in some angles, the flake looks like dust.

Thanks for the opinions guys,

what are some of the off the shelf canary yellow metallics? i.e. monaro yellow(the colour thats on the car atm)
colour either side of it on the spectrum. ie. orange or green
You made a good point, I reckon if i went for a pearl I'd consider a oj or red pearl in the yellow.

Regarding the problem with matching the pearl. I will be seeing my panel shop this tuesday and we'll see if we can come to a conclusion then. If the pearl is mixed in with the clear and makes it hard to match, I might just go a metallic then. The car is used as a daily for now so it gets driven a fair bit. Can you actually have canary yellow with canary yellow pearl on top, if its possible would there be any difference between yellow/yellow pearl and yellow metallic?

I was planning to get pepperpots, but Ive noticed that the skyline r31 Ti wheels would look quite nice on the sigma and give it a tougher look.

Yes I was planning that too (leave bump strips black and stripe in it, yellow), the bump strips are on but probably not clear in the pics. Yeah the scoops do look a little funny :P I might change to a singuler scoop right above the carby like this so it blends in: http://www.aus-ford-uk.co.uk/assets/ima ... scoop2.jpg

Yeah, not sure about actually what is available in yellow metallics, was just suggesting staying with an off the shelf colour (or standard formula) to make matching stone chips easier. As soon as a pearl coat is chipped, it's a bit of a nightmare to repair.

I'm in the process of getting some quotes but I am finding it quite a hard to find even 1 or 2 shops that are willing to even touch the car. I'm not really keen to take a risk by taking the car to some unknown place, so does anyone know of or can recommend a shop in Melb preferably in S.E suburbs?

p.s. I cant take the car to a shop that only specialises in spraying since i also need to fix a few rust spots and some body work.
