My GN Sigma Satellite EFI
My GN Sigma Satellite EFI
Got my first car a few weeks ago, a GN Sigma. It's a 1 owner with only 95,000klms on the clock. The old guy who had it lost his license as he was old, 90's. The son didn't want it so got rid of it. He reckons the old guy bought it on his retirement thats why it's so low klms, the car has always been garaged, never been crashed, interior like new, engine bay is spotless, no rust in any of the doors or guards.
It's a 2.6 Astron 2 automatic, has power steering and air con, has the Satellite stripes and runs unleaded. The car has the sticker from when the dealer delivered the car. It came from North Shore Mitsubishi in October 1986, there is the dealer order number on the sticker too.
So far all we have done is give it a good clean and detail, painted the hubcaps because they were faded, fish oiled the body so it won't rust, and put the original radio back in. We even found a cassette from 87 Hit City 1987
I won't be modifying it for now, it's too good a car. The Astron 2 badge is missing from 1 of the guards so if anyone has 1 to sell let me know.
Here it is, enjoy.

It's true. Damn it's tidy.
And the interior... wow.
You are planning on Modifying this?
What would you do to it that wont ruin it? EFI? Turbo? Lower it, pepperpots perhaps?
Dave...

Very, VERY nice and neat old girl mate. Don't listen about crappy pepper pots, the turbo rims are 1000 x better than the lost in space 1970's PP's

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
Great purchase mate, well done! The rims are a tough call. You have the unfortunate situation of owning a Classsic, original car ( there's plenty of dispute about the word "classic" but goddammit I own several 1960's Colts and I still reckon your siggy is a Classic! ) that came out with pretty ordinary hubbies. I reckon the only Siggy that deserves it's original hubbies is the GE SE. So in your case, I probably would run with some Pepperpots if you can find them. I love siggy turbo rims but to suit the original theme, at least PP's came out on the GJ-GK body shape whereas Turbz rims only came out on GH's. No rush though, cruise the thing with Siggy Turbz in the meantime I reckon
Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
IMO the turbo rims don't suit the models after the GH.
So for me I'd be looking for turbos for a GE or GH, and Pepperpots for anything after that.
And just for the record, no I'm not a fan of the pepperpots, but they do seem to look quite at home on a later model Sigma and still keep the 'it could be factory look'.

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
Wow, that's the sort of condition you expect a 3yr old car to be in.
I also have to favour the consensus here; go for the pepperpots if you can.
The turbs are a bit too 'pretty' for your GN IMHO - the PPs look much tuffer and suit the bigger chunkier GJ-GN shape.

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
I dont mind that myself . I had a set of widened steel rims on an old LH Torana with the factory full hubcaps. Looked goodGalant_GT0 wrote:I vote for getting the stock wheels widened and keeping the hubcaps

Best one I have seen was a Ford Landau with those spoke type hub caps. This thing must of has 14x12 inch rear stockies with the factory hub caps. Looked sweet.I dont mind that myself . I had a set of widened steel rims on an old LH Torana with the factory full hubcaps. Looked good
Having said they were stockies under the hub caps I am not sure, but I did here a rumour that it was cheaper back in the day to buy a cheap set of wide 12 slotters and chuck ya hub caps on them, lol
Re: My GN Sigma Satellite

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
Thought i might post an update up.
After putting coolant in the motor (for the first time in its life i think) it developed an leak, was small at first, but it got the point where every time i drove it i had to more in...
After giving it a fang around the Marulan Driver Training Centre track it got quite bad (pissed all the coolant out).
I have since worked out it have been coming from somewhere around the crossmember area, so took the carby off and manifold, and found this on the bottom of it.......................
Went to the wreckers this morning, but didn't find a astron 2 manifold

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
Pretty common problem there mate.
Wouldn't bother getting one from the wreckers as they will all be in a similar condition.
If you have a shop locally who re-conditions engines I'd be heading there, if not, go to a place which welds aluminum all day long and they should be able to repair it for you.
An example would be somewhere who makes bull bars & ute tray bodies should be someone there capable of doing a neat job of it.
-You (or them) will need to carefully cut off the entire bottom section where it has let go, don't bother trying to run a weld along it as the odds are all of it will be foobar'ed
Nick.

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
My brother was telling me about the day just last night (he owns the blue TE).
Sounds like it was a good one for everyone except the Mk1 who had to be towed home?
Have you thought about going EFI on the Sig?
You are already half way there, you have an Astron 2 and you have the manifold off...

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
It was a good day, even for an auto like mine.
I have thought about it, i will do it further down the track, but i want to keep it standard as it will be my daily.

Re: My GN Sigma Satellite
I understand wanting to keep it standard, or close to.
BTW...
Maybe you should put up some details of the next Small Ford track day?
Would be a top stir to turn up with a few of ours
