GC Coupe resurrection
2 years ago I bought tangos GC coupe project.
Today I started sweeping out spiders, scraping the worms out of the the wheels and unbolting the engine that got water in the bores from the fue pick up line.. Another project has commenced!
Unlike my A57 this will be a budget build, with the money going to electrics. This car is going to be a sleeper that makes no sense!
I just bought a recon 4g32 for licensing and until I get money to do something nice. So that is where I will start.
The plan.
-Attack the rust. Cut the stuff out, weld it up and fill it. The finish doesn't matter. You will see why Later.
-strip the interior and refurbish. This includes carpet, seats reupholstered, sound system, etc
-fix up the drive train. Suspension. Wheel Bearings. Steering. Ball joints. All the fun stuff!
-replace front windscreen and both rubbers
-rub it all back and prime and paint in a good Hardy paint of any color.
-get it up to scratch for license and do so.
Then the fun part
I'm going to paint the car in iron paint and poor acid all over the car! Spray water on it a few times for a week And then when it looks like the rustiest bucket around I will seal it with 10 coats of clear!
I'm still not sure if I do it quality with straight bumpers and panels or if I should use a ruined bumper set and have the number plate hanging off and really dented guards? This is where I need help

In my opinion, if you are going the heavy surface rust look, then maybe stick with panels and bright-work that don't upset the natural lines of the car. Will you be clear coating in matt, satin or gloss?

Clear is a long way away. Probably gloss or I will never be able to find spots that are actually rusty!

So this is a budget project so please excuse the fibreglass. But I would have screwed it more trying to Weld it because that whole section is full of lead.
Here is today. Exposed the worst of the rust. I had a compete cutout rust free to go under the rear windscreen and I threw it out in one of my cleanups!
Forgot to take one pre cut out but lets just say its better that way. Rust was terrible. There was a gap where it is now just from rust.
I ripped it up with a grinder and then drill wire brush attachment. Then rust convertered it with 4 soaked coats and after wax and grease remover I etch primed 4 rich coats. Then layed on the glass. The glass goes up and down under the skin, not just in the hole. I am going to do another layer tomorrow but I had to go to work so had to stop there.

Got stuck into the rear window rust today.
It's really bad.. Going to have to just stop it from going any further and then get it fixed properly when I get some money.

Removed the number plate holder, sanded it all back and cut out bits of rust around lights. Primed it all
Rubbed all back and primed. I'm not going all the way to the metal as the primer underneath is still good. Rear lower left boot sill was almost rust free which is a bonus.

The bonnet had a single layer of etch on it for the last few years in the rain. All good underneath though

Thinking maybe after I apply the rust paint to the Bonnet I might look at keeping the Centre risen bit bare metal laquered or a cold gal or hammered finish. Unsure

Im not sure what its actually called. But it's on bare metal. And it looks like they had I wire brush on one spot for a while, and continued to do it all over the place. It ends up looking like that book contact that was around ages ago

I'm going to do the boot lid, inside lip of the guards and the inside of the door frames too. Because my paint is going to look so 'shitty' I want a strong contrast when things are opened.

Make it easy to get to the pipes this time
No need to comment on the two different colors. Budget build=using what I have
Front End painted in matt includingc surrounds. Cleaned up the bumper and sealed the lights

I have a set of turbos with 50mm pirellis on them so going to run those. They need a clean up though!
