Post by 74GalantGB »

GD Galant.

*******************************
EDIT:

1976, Chrysler/Mitsubishi Galant, GD
Automatic.

Purchased on 17th March,
from Remount Wreckers,
@ Mowbray (Tas)

Paid $300

Bargain. ;-)

Engine etc., all good as far as I know.
Runs well.
Drive very well.
1.6L. All original.

Body is pretty good.
A ding in driver side rear, door.
(Popped out now! ... Barely noticeable)
Few little dings in bonnet, and front guard.

Interior needs a little work, but not bad cond. considering it's been sitting at the wreckers since late 2008...

PLANS
* Fix what needs fixing; keep interior/body as orig as possible
* Convert from Automatic to Manual
* Convert from 1.6L, to 2.0L
* CD Player
* ALARM SYSTEM!!
* SECOND alarm system (hooked to horn and lights, so horn will blow non-stop, and either headlights or interior light will turn on (hopefully flash)!!
* Kill Switch!!
And some other thing dad has in mind to be sure it can't be stolen and murdered like ALF was... but I can't remember exactly what he had in mind now o.o

********************************

Gave it a clean tonight.

Photos:

Boot.. half clean:
Image

Bonnet.. half clean:

Roof... half clean:

All Clean (wash; water only - enjo gloves, ftw..;-))

Ha, doesn't surprise me a bloke in the wreckers got it wrong. Galant's have gone unnoticed/unappreciated for way too long.

So you've bought a Sigma and this GD?
So what's your plans for this one then?

Yep, both... had to borrow some money (which I hate doing =/) but yeah, as soon as thats paid back, I'll be free to start spending on GD (I hope..)

Plans so far... Just tidy her up, see how she looks... motor runs etc, but dads gotta give it a proper check... hopefully, within the next couple of months I can take her and get her rego'd... =]
Not too worried about paint right now... can't afford to get her painted for a few years heh...

Gonna pull seats and carpet etc out today... give it a proper clean, and clean everything else, put it all back in...

BTW; anyone know where I can buy GD carpet??

Well I found some receipts etc when cleaning it out... Rego expired July 2008. Been sitting at wreckers since, as far as I'm aware.

Siggy is just a run-around for now... until I can get GD rego'd.
Don't think I could afford two regos heh... =/ Stupid jobseeker payments =/ ... sigh...

Got a few things to pay off before I can afford to get GD rego'd though... Heh... hate money =( Whoever invented it should be murdered a million times over... =_=

Lol.. would love to re-spray... dark metalic blue or purple or something.... but meh, wont be able to afford that for a long long time yet =/

the 2.0L motor and 5spd Gbox that was in ALF are going to go in this one (if they still ok..)... Wouldnt mind putting a V6 in it, but too much paper work heh...

I don't like lowered cars :P so I'd try to keep it as high as I can...
Dunno whether to put ALFs mags on it, or find something else...
Also need a mirror for drivers door o.o lol...

But for now, just tidy up, hopefully it'll get pit passed, and rego, and woot... daily car ;-) lol...

would be slightly different... you know how there is the rising up bit on bonnet? ... that would be yellow, rest of bonnet black... this was just to see how it'd look.. give us an idea etc...

Yep, already know that Dave =] Thanks =]

Stripes/paint will be like this:
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 0503_n.jpg

...and thinking maybe a thin stripe along top of dark black at bottom of car... to match sport stripe under/around windows...

Note; black on bottom is mostly to hide the little bit of rust (until can afford for full respray etc) Wouldn't be quite so black either; would match the colour of sports stripe as best it can...

Also, have "drag" mags that will hopefully fit and suit... should add to the "sporty" look. =]

The sportpack stripe actually looks a lot better in the flesh than it does in those photos.
I was even more stoked about the one on the coupe after it was done. Mine doesn't continue all the way to the very end of the guard however, I had the (now a little silly) idea of fading it out but I don't think it really worked. I couldn't think of a nice way to end it differently to just cutting off solid.

Apart from the tear in the drivers seat, the vinyl came up nice and clean :thumpsup:
Looks like a good base to start from.

Ok, so GB interior carpet will fit GD, yes?
>.> Hoping so... If it does, I gets to save a few dollars! Lol... =] ... And I don't actually HAVE any dollars right now, so saving some would be great o.o Heh...

Anything else on body and interior that will fit GD (from GB)?

Thx much =]

ah you missed a spot ;p looks the goods i must say. i love detailing cars. the best is when you polish it, go over it with a clay bar and finish with a wax. also use a bit of tyre shine. its amazing what it can do to the look of your car when you shine the tyres. but youve done a great job with the car. how long till rego?

=O I did?? Where?? *looks*

I'm thinking about 2 or 3 months, if I can get hold of the bits and pieces I need...

Yeah, will have new tyres on it asap... (will just have to use oldies for the nows...) and thinking I may get windows tinted later on... Not too dark, but it's gonna have the black around windows, so I reckon would look better with a tint...
Debating on mags, too... Don't wanna put ALFs old ones on it... just doesn't "feel" right... They were ALFs mags, noone else is worthy of them...
This car is already getting his motor, gearbox and exhaust (if it'll fit)... It ain't getting his mags. =_=
I do have some drag mags, might put them on...

Wanna give it another cut before I do the rest (clay bar, wax, etc)... just make sure I get the worst of the cr@p off it first...
Need to get some of that chrome polish stuff too... Hmmm.... Wonder if dad has any hidden in his shed >.>
