LC Lancer hatch. AKA "Larry"

No idea how to move the thread, so there's the intro.. http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=6018

Will slowly update over the next couple of months. Plans are restore/tidy up to factory with 14" sigma steelies, 2.6, weber, exhaust etc. Just enough to harass some bogans in Commonwhore's...

First thing was to remove those spotlights and swap the rear bumper to a chrome one..
Before

After

Note the random grill thats been cut in the middle to fit and held in with cable ties :banh:

New bumper needs a little work but still looks a lot better..

Checked the oil, water and air filter I looked like I had spent all day working on it. Plenty of built up oil and shit. :\ Half cleaned now, got to buy about six cans of degreaser lol. Good improvment though.. Worry about that after oil changes and stuff are done...

Anyone know what these seats are out of? Still on the factory slides etc.

I actually prefer the black bumpers on the LC's.
Do you have a chrome front one to put on it as well?

Ummm.. Hope so, not too sure though, will have to raid the shed. I don't think the big squared bumpers suit the shape of the car, stick out too far if you look at the car from the side, just my opinion though...

I've had 2 LB hatches and now 2 LC hatches.

The LB's have a much nicer look and more 'Old Skool' look about them.
The LC's have a more bulky and modern look about them.

In my opinion, to make an LC look good they need bold modern wheels and a bold solid colour. Be it white, orange, yellow or something like that.
I've tried to go for that look on mine. I think it works ok.
Image
The paint is still as was when I bought it. There will be a change, but I have other projects to complete first.
I think I may add some stripes to the side of it, and possibly lose the black bonnet? But these are just thoughts atm... If the bonnet stays black I'm thinking of painting the front apron black too.
It will be de-badged and the bumpers straightened and repainted. I have to source some good rubber ends for them too. I'll remove the sill strips.
And I'd love to get some JDM side window louvres.

Here's my old LB
Image

Please ignore the pink bits under the bonnet, it was 1994. Bright colours were in, and i wanted my car to stand out more at the 'Fast Fours and Rotaries Nationals'.

Here's a Celeste from Bangkok. It has the rear window louvres I'm after for mine.
Cool looking hatch anyway, so I thought you'd like to see it.

I don't mind the look of the front bumper on your orange hatch, looks good actually. The one on ours is pretty rough. It's the back one I don't like, not sure if it looks weird, two different ones, although you can't see the front and the back of the car at the same time...
I wouldn't have noticed the pink bits under the bonnet if you didn't point them out.. Nice lol.
Pretty sure we'll be keeping the yellow, saves respraying the whole car.
I like the side mirrors on the orange one as well. Have a couple of them but they're both right hand ones :banh: If I can't find a left one, I might try a "minitruck" place or wherever those guys go to get things, Bound to have something round and polished there..

Are you sure the mirrors are both right ones. The one on Dave's orange lancer looks to be the factory style which are interchangeable from right to left. Just move the mirror angle. Otherwise the auto stores sell chromed plastic ones which are pretty similar. Or look for one from one of the valiant as one of the models had an identical mirror. The Aussie galants and lancers used a valiant mirror instead of the jap style front guard mirrors. Don't expect a really good one original to be cheap though.

Sweet! Looks almost like mine except for the rims and under the bonnet. I even have the same (worthless) mirror on the door (but on the left side of course) :p
The polished stainless steel strips under the doors will be put later on.

Do you still have anything for these LB's laying around Dave?

Cheers
Sven

If you're interested in them, I'm taking them off shortly to replace them with black ones. Unfortunately the mirrors are not a pair and the chrome is not in the best nick.

You can if you look from the side
Have you got an LC grill?
We really need to meet up and talk...
BlueThunder wrote:Do you still have anything for these LB's laying around Dave?

I sold that LB in about 1996 or 97 (not sure).
At the same time I gave all of my parts away with the car. Including dead straight GB Galant bumpers

I put my quick twin carb motor from my old Pink GB in it and sold it to my best mate. He traded it in 1 month later and took half what he paid me for it. Then he threw all the other parts except for one motor down at the dump. The head of that one motor is now the head on my Wagon  So at least not all of it went to waste.

I had a room under my Dads house full of Lancer hatch parts. I threw them all down the tip in about 1998 :banh:
He wanted them gone.
Wish I had those parts now?
All I have left is an instrument panel and brake master cylinder and booster.

My favourite car of all time is my first Lancer Hatch. Was a gold/brown LB Hatch. The stories I have from that car still get told today.
I only have a handful of pics from it. It wasn't much to look at, but sometimes that's not what it's about is it?

:hit: and it was all of 10pm lol,

Dad has two I think, one for his (LC front on his LB) and one we're going to use on this one..
We should have this one rego'd in the next 4-6 weeks if we pull our fingers out, hopefully everyones keen for a cruise :P

We have a few pairs of doors and guards, but no spare bonnets or LC hatches :banh:

It seemed to me that the LB hatch physically fits the LC's but the hinges are different.

Is it possible to cut and weld the hinges so they bolt on??

oh and si81gma when are you next coming and working on larry with me?
Its kinda boring with no one to talk to :(

To Do List For Today:

Sand the replacement doors, mask up and prime.
Same with front apron panel.
Possibly go over the front guards and remove any rust that i can.

Who's car actually is this?
si85gma, did you end up selling your Sigma?
If not put the wheels off it on the hatch?

My dad bought larry as a joint project for myself and si81gma.

Sold my sigma but i've been told its up for sale again in north wyong.
Somehow i think 18's are too big for a car that originally wore 13" shoes... :)

I think we're sticking to steelies.... Sleeper style :)

Most likely gonna have to change the drivers side front guard...

Its got little rust holes in it and one area has about 5 or 6 kilos of bog in it.

Lucky there is a couple of spares.

Hi
I guys, I have a LC that has seen better days, the shell it self has just about rusted away, but has a front grille all glass and all trim are there as are the original seat and interior trim. Seat would need to be re upholstered but are original. Motor gear box and diff are all there carby dissy radiator etc but has not run for a number of years so can't really tell condition (original 1600). Need to get rid of it but would hate to see parts go to waste if someone wanted them. Contact me on hopperk@dodo.com.au if you are interested.

Hey everyone, I just purchased this lancer of my mate. Has been just sitting in the garage for about 9 years since the posts stopped on here! Have got it running again. Just planning to give it a sand back and a new coat of paint. And redo the interior as it's gross haha. If anyone has a lc lancer grill spare somewhere around Newcastle or central coast It would be much appreciated. Also willing to go a bit further if need be. Cheers, Lucas :)
