Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
I keep telling 84GKSIG that he doesn't need so many cars, then I go out and buy another one.
I have a couple photos and some info, but will add more later.
Last time it was registered was from 15/07/96 - 14/10/96. From what I have been told, it was last driven when the rego ran out. Nothing had been done to it since then, 15 years, yet it still runs.
This goes to prove how awesome the Saturn engines are.
It even comes with both Mitsubishi and Chrysler badges.
From the original photos, and what I saw when the car arrived, it looked like the seats were fabric, and all ripped. On closer inspection, they appear to be brown leather trim.
Photos from the eBay ad.
More photos and plans soon.

Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
UZY-101
Cool plates, i think.
So when will 'UZY' get some TLC? Actually looks pretty straight, just a little rust in the rear end..

Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
Thanks. Currently I am thinking about fixing the rust, giving it a nice paint job, and keeping everything else original.metry wrote:sweet purchase mate. keep us updated on how you go. you plan on making it all original or going all out on it?
If the 'Y' was an 'I', it would be better, but UZY-101 sounds good though. Probably will start doing some work on it when I have time between my LC and GN. From what I can see, I didn't see any dents, except for a minor one in the rear bumper. The rest is straight. It is just the rust that is the main problem.ddt wrote:UZY-101

Kicking around some ideas for the paint. Going to keep it red, but maybe a darker shade, or candy apple. This is one idea so far.

Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
After many many minutes of hard work, 84GKSIG and I have completed this resto!
In my dreams
The Good
Stock head unit still in the dash.
What looks to be factory Chrysler mud flaps.
Factory side mirror is unbroken.
One factory hubcap.
Original blanker plate for the centre console.
Orignal 4 speed shifter knob.
The Bad.
Cracked Dash.
Aftermarket steering wheel.
Dented rear end.
Seat trim falling apart.
Rust.
Rust.
Rust.
Rust.
Rust.
Rust.
Some more shots of cleaning up the car.
And another shot of the engine bay.

the crappier the car is to begin with the more glory when its restored, but damn that's a lot of rust.

Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
Had some time while there was some light left, so some more LB work.
Start up attempt 1.

Star up attempt 2

Choke is now off.

The reason why the car wont actually drive at the moment.
Time for my favourite game, Find the Star on the Mitsubishi Engine!
Looks to be part of a round rego sticker stuck to the front windscreen.
Most of the lights work, including the heat lights.
69,647.7 kms on the clock.

Once the plugs were cleaned it seemed to run suprisingly smooth after all this time.
I do think the mechanicals are the least of your worries though.

that needs some serious body work, how far are you willing to go, she's knackered old kid!

nothing a bit of bog cant fix!
Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
i like the ford rear mudflaps, are they original?
on another note, if those driver side mirrors are any type of hard to get, it looks the same as the ones on the early valiants (ve vf vg)
good luck restoring it mate, these are hardly around anymore so if you do restore it, it would be good to get it on the road.

Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
Grabbed a couple things down at U-Pull-It. The side mirror + rear view mirror are from a GA, but looks to be around the same size as what would go into the LB.
Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
I am wondering if anyone knows the deal with the tail light surrounds - I have never seen these on a LB sedan in AUS. Mine & all the others I have seen or remembered seeing have the shorter surrounds (they end well before the No. plate). These I have seen overseas, but not in AUS.
Just wondering.
Thanks.

Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
HI Cottee, ive been searching the net for a project such as yours - I have an excact replica, '77 LB, even down to the colour. ('California Orange', i discovered a few years ago). Its the best car ive ever had, owned it for 13 years. Sadly, it got too run down a couple of years ago and has been in my garage, unregistered ever since, covered in dust and cobwebs. Now under orders from the missus to get rid of it. Judging by the photos you posted Its in a bit better condition than yours was when you first got it, and its 95% factory original. Im not a restorer, if i was i'd do it. Some bad rust patches, and a non original boot lid. Im sure theres a lot of parts etc you could use. I'd hate to see it go to a wrecker, it was my faithful steed.
I'm on the Mornington peninsular in Vic.
Are you interested in getting in touch and i can tell you more.

Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
I thought I would weigh this up against current rego prices. My hardtop is out of rego at the moment and it is going to cost me $205.00 to put 3 months rego on it.Cottees wrote: 15/07/96 - 14/10/96.
.
$205
Thats a 260% increase in 16 years. INSANE
Re: Cottees' 1977 Chrysler Lancer LB resto
rego prices are scary, how much did it used to be for 6 months? were getting pretty close to paying that amount for 3 months i feel
