kermits next problem

hey guys. matt go kermit running today. (the car with the fuel pump problem) the problem now is stopping her. you can turn the key off and out of the ignition and the car just keeps going. its like its so happy to be running again it doesn't want to stop lol. not just a bit of run on either. you actually have to stall her to stop her. i'm thinking the coil must still be getting power maby??

if the wries are round the wrong way on the coil, woud that keep power going to it and be the source of the problem??

cheers guys

this happens on la lancer when you do the astron conversion and alt with internal reg
to exturnal regulator
so does the scorp have a exturnal regulator ? or used to maybe
jst a thought

it has a standard carby. the only thing changed is now it has an electric fuel pump. . i though that turning off ignition cut power to the coil?? thats why i thought it was related to the coil. .

on the side of your carby there is fuel cut off solenoid. take it out and see if it moves when u turn the igniton off and on

ok. i'll look at that. .

also. shouldn't the coil power be cut when i turn the ignition off anyway? souldn't that stop the car?

Next time it runs on pull the wires off the coil.

You wont need a coil to make it run if you have a hot spot in the chambers.

oh. well the car is only running for a min or so at best as it doesn't have an exhaust, so there shouldn't really be a hot spot. or can a hot spot come that quickly?

Can't it run on if the timing's too far advanced? Although that's usually a stumbling sort of a run on, not happy about it.

well the timing hasn't been done. so its fully advanced. but my friend says its fully running on. . so confusing lol

No I think he means a hot spot inside the combustion chamber mate

Is it the same alternator that the car originally came with?

I had the same issue that Stealth suggested when I went from my 2.6 to a 2.0L L200 engine. Put my old alternator back onto the new engine and all was fixed.

ok worked on the car today. its strange. turn engine off and key out and it still runs fine needs to be stalled to stop. can even take earth off battery and it keeps going.

now noticed. when i unplug the alternator, i can turn motor off. plug it back in and cant. . the wires for the alternator are: 1 thicker white one that is the charge for the battery. can remove and car wont stop. and two other wires are in the loom. 1 blue 1 yellow. the alternator has only 1 spot for a wire. so the blue goes on to there. and thats the one, if removed, that can allow me to stop the car with. but if i remove the wire, the thick white wire doesn't charge the battery.

so if i change the alternator, will this solve the problem?

cheers

sounds like you have a short from your alternator to your coil.. alternator should go to your battery i beleive, battery to ignition, ignition to coil.. so find the short between the alternator and the coil and your in business i guess

yeah, we figured that. it must be in the signal wire to the alternator. are there any fuses or relays that i should check as well?

Ok thi sis an electrical issue and not because the alt is bad but because of the type of alt. It is easily fixed but we need to know what exactly this line does etc etc. You have already stated it is the blue wire.

If you look at the back of the alternator

- what is the label next to the blue wire position? I suspect you have a Bosch three wire alt and it will be either "S" or "L".
- With this wire disconnected does the alt light on the dash display in the "ing" position on the key barrel (without the car running).
- If it does when you start it does the ing light go out or stay on?
- If you meter the output of the alternator what voltage does it spit out?

Cheers

tritons with the 4g54 astron engine were notorious for running on mine did the same fuel cut solenoids were the problem changed solenoid and problem was fixed for a while anyway put a webber on it and never had a problem after that. if you have workshop manual that can help you with wiring diagrams as they are colour coded make sure the wire doesn't have a stripe down it for instance blue with red stripe etc.
