My first car build
Hello this is my first post on the forum.
Here's my first car that I hope to have fixed up and rego'd by late Oct (when I'm old enough to go for my P's). I picked up a 75 model wagon with a twin headlight facelift that I got it from C_Fernance
It needs a heap of work, and I'll be learning as I go (75wagon is my Dad as some may have picked up by the other wagon's in the shed in the pics).
1st thing I need to work on is to cut out and repair any rust. Anything bolt on might just get swapped out for better panels, looks like I'll be raiding Dad's parts stash...
I'm also in need of a motor. Being for my P's and NSW I can't have anything engineered, so I need a 1.6 Saturn (if anyone has anything kicking around I'd be interested?).
Time I have money I don't
Picking up from C_Fernance's place, Thanks heaps Chris, and bigbird for the tow.
My first drive was from driveway to trailer.
Unloading
Into the shed with the 75wagon's wagons to be tidied up and get the treatment (which ofcourse means being cooler and better than his car)
There'll be plenty of updates happening here, so watch this space.
I'll be needing input from others to keep me motivated (and to stop me going mad when Dad is into me about what I should or shouldn't be doing).
Why a wagon, Dad's shed is full of wagon's and parts, seems like the smart move to me...
Ferg...

Long time member, first time poster.
Welcome to the forum bud.
Looks like a bit of a build ahead of you, do you have what it takes to get it there?
Enjoy Ferg, first cars are always the best, no others ever take there place in your heart.
Good choice on your first ride and project.
Thanks to C_Fernance for looking after you on your first ride.
Thanks to bigbird for helping out with the tow.
Yeah it needs some work, if your up for it, you can make something of it with the tools you have access to.
And may you build something you are proud of.
I couldn't be prouder.

Re: My first car build
First cars will always hold a place in your heart no matter what they are.
Going through the wheels I got for the Lancer the other day I discovered one was originally from my first Scorpion. I'll be making sure that one ends up on it with the rally tyres I'm getting just so there is a part from my first car on it in some way.
If you need help with anything don't be afraid to give a shout out and I'm sure there will be many of us in the Sigma-Galant community that will be willing to pitch in and make things happen.

Re: My first car build
Where I got up to today.
Lifted the wagon up and degreased the engine bay, high pressure water blasted everything underneath. Pushed the front brake cylinders back in so it's easier to push around (they are currently seized up).
Got started getting into seeing exactly how much damage the rust has caused in the lower rear guards and rear corners (below the tail lights). It's not as bad as first thought, but there's still plenty of work to be done repairing it.
This is the car jacked up for the degreasing
Here's the rust that has to be repaired.

Looks like a good start for a project, good luck with it mate
Re: My first car build
There is truly no better way to learn to look after your cars than to build one up like this. There will be times in the build where you wonder if you will ever finish. Even times where you want to give up but push past all that and I promise the joy you will get driving your hard work on the road with make up for it ten fold. I also feel its wise to point out modding cars is addictive. Odds are this wont be your only build.
Cars: 95 Wrx, 77 Galant, 73 Galant.

Couldn't agree more

My only regret , and advice is , take heaps of pics , of everything that you do , its progress in years to come you can look back and enjoy what has been achieved
Congrats on being a fellow mitsi addict
And if you ever need custom parts

Re: My first car build
Started getting in to repairs this week, I'm trying to get something done at least every night even if it's a small fun job like getting rid of that window sealer. The time just fly's by
Have taken out the left back window TRIED to get rid of the window sealer
Cut out the rust
Cut and shaped the replacement section
welded
Almost finished cleaning the welds up
Still haven't decided on the color (open for suggestions one idea is factory orange like this)

Orange is his favourite colour, I bet it's what he ends up running with.
Saying that, anything is up for change.
Budget will be the decider on most things with this build.
Fact is, Ferg's doing it mostly himself.
This is what's going on it the garage right now.
BTW, anyone got the code for that particular orange? It's factory on the GD's isn't it?

Nothing better than a bit of "hands on" work.
And don't worry about making mistakes, an expert is just someone who has made a lot more mistakes in that job.
Keep it up.
Cheers.

Re: My first car build
the galant above is actually "sunset orange" paint code 064,092
the 073 is a bit more of a red orange. sunrise or sunset orange may be what you'd like.

Heres my GQ Galant Sigma in what i'm pretty sure is actually spitfire orange https://imgur.com/a/H1vuS
In sunlight its a brilliant orange, but in the shade its more reddish.
Just to give you an idea of the colour.

Thanks for the suggestion, but because I'll be spraying it (and it will be my first spray job) I'd rather use a solid colour.Scorpma82 wrote:U can always go 'tiger mica' found on the vt commodores..... I like that as an orange....but it dies have a gold tinge through it too
At the moment I'm thinking of using sunset orange.
And today's effort... Windows out Wednesday

Looking good, IMO metallics are for more show type cares, I prefer solids. Some solids looks ridiculously good. That's why I'm keeping to spitfire orange, I reckon sunset orange is gonna look sweet on that wagon.
