LA Lancer (Perth)
Hi,
This site looks cool. I've been running into Galant owners suggesting I should register here. So this is my car (though it now has a nice black dash mat).
Clutch cable has just snapped, anyone know where to find these?
Chas

Hi Chas, (also my cat's name, lol)
That lancer is 'mintox', man.
(apologies for the random use of 80's era school-yard vocab -I've been having a few quiet ones tonight you see..)

Wow, that's in top Nic
How long have you had it, and how did you end up coming by the car?
All it needs is whitewall tyres

No plans as yet. Have nowhere near enough money to be spending on a car. Would one day like to give it something more powerful under hood, it's gutless at the moment. I've been thinking about whitewalls...
I bought this car from a guy called Rob who is apparently on this site. I've had it about 3 months now.
I used to drive Geminis. I used to think they were pretty good but in comparison to the build quality of this Lancer... Geminis are terrible.

I remember this car http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.p ... 424#p33424
It will be worth a lot more left as is? But that's up to you.
All of the small 4's from the 70's and 80's have there positives and negatives.
I regard early Mitsubishi's very highly, I've had Datsun's and after I bought an LB Lancer Hatch for cheap for something different, have never gone back.
I've had:
10 Galants
4 Lancer hatches
1 GE sigma
1 RC colt (fwd)
1 2005 VRX Lancer wagon.
I think they are great cars, and worth a lot more respect and coin then a lot of motoring enthusiasts give them

Re: LA Lancer (Perth)
Please Please Please dont modify this car.
Its in way too good of condition to do anything to it!!!
You will only decrease its value,
And you will regret it later.
Dont even change the exhaust.

Re: LA Lancer (Perth)
Wow you guys really don't want me to modify! Ok perhaps not.
Jobs to do:
-Straighten out back chrome bumper.
-Treat inside lip of front doors to prevent rust outbreaks.
-Valve stem seals.
-Paint venetians black??
And really once that's done, there's nothing more to do on this car!!!

It's your car, do what you want.Chas wrote:Wow you guys really don't want me to modify! Ok perhaps not.
It's only opinions that have been given.
Truth of the matter is, what do you do with a car that is really original and straight (to precious to touch) but you really want a modified one? It's the question we all ask?

They painted them black on 80's cars like Commodores. I like the white. But if you want to change it, have you thought about the silver body colour? My brother used the body colour on his Mk2 Cortina (although it was Ford Classic White), it looks good, just like it came from the factory like thatChas wrote:-Paint venetians black??

Where can I get an after market clutch plate?
Thought mine was ok until I put a new clutch cable on. Now that the cable is nice and tight, my peddle comes almost all the way out until it bites.

Re: LA Lancer (Perth)
Cables aren't supposed to be tight, they are supposed to have an amount of freeplay.
If you make it tight, it's the same as putting your foot on the clutch pedal.

Re: LA Lancer (Perth)
By tight I mean the new cable is properly tensioned where-as the old one had stretched over time. The reason I could formerly adjust my cable to engage the clutch 1/2 way down the pedal was because the old cable had stretched to allow it. With the new cable, I have to adjust the clutch adjustment nut to sit right at the bottom of its thread (which puts the pedal engaging the clutch right at the end of the pedal's outward movement). Any further tightening the nut and the clutch will slip. Any further loosening and the nut will come off its thread and the clutch pedal will go floppy. I have only a tiny margin for adjustment.
This means the clutch plate is on its last legs, right?

Re: LA Lancer (Perth)
Or maybe the wrong clutch cable?
Did you check the lengths of the cables against each other? I wouldn't think cables would stretch that much?

Re: LA Lancer (Perth)
Bad news, this car was the victim of an accident about two weeks ago.
To save me from having to explain myself I'll just post this picture from the official crash report. It was a 74 year old man who caused the accident and given the circumstances, there was nothing I could have done to avoid the crash. He just appeared out from behind that truck, I a split second to brake traveling at just under 60km/h at impact. The car is tough as! Nobody was hurt.
I'm heart broken, and wish I had the money to restore her back. But, I don't so am offering her up for sale.
Apart from the obvious damage to the bonnet, fender panels, radiator... I don't know the extent of the mechanical damage. I'd imagine the front suspension is buckled and I know the engine block has been pushed back into the bay but it appears to be intact. All the bodywork behind the windscreen is intact.
Prior to the crash there was no rust in the bodywork at all. POR15 was used to treat surface rust on the bottom lips of the front doors. New battery, new air filter, new oil filter, new clutch cable which I had managed to adjust properly (by grinding off a fraction of the adjustment housing). I was just about to have a mechanic do the valve stems prior to the crash. Other than that, the car was in tip top mechanical condition. The interior is 100% perfect, not even any cracks in the dash.
I really have no idea what the car is worth now, so I will have to ask for offers to get a ballpark figure. I want to sell it in one piece, will not wreck. Located in Inglewood, Perth.

Glad to hear you are ok.
Shame about the Lancer though
Another classic bites the dust
So in the pic, were you the one that was turning or the one that was going straight ahead?

Re: LA Lancer (Perth)
oh no!
it may not be a complete write off. this reminds me of a 1st gen celica i saw once with similar damage. it looked really bad but it was a glancing blow across the front like yours so it was mainly just panel damage and the body was still straight. i saw it driving around a couple of weeks later with a different coloured front end on it.

I've had people pull out on me when I'm driving my wagon a few times to many. You can see the look on their faces change when they realise that it's not just an ordinary car they've just pulled out on.metry wrote:man that sucks. thats the only thing that makes me paranoid when i think about driving my lancer.
